Elworthy, Wellington - 1851 census request
« on: Wednesday 08 June 05 05:39 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'd be grateful if someone could look up the 1851 census for the Elworthy family in Wellington, Somerset, address Westford House.

In 1861 Jane Elworthy (c1801) is a widow, but her husband Thomas may still have been alive in 1851.

Also in 1861 were Anna Louisa (c1828), Edward (c1836) and Florence (c1843).

Many thanks,

Ros

That's brilliant Debbie, thanks so much. The speed!!

These are definitely the ones - William and Thomas were brothers.

What do you think is meant by the 'lady' in the Wm Elworthy family? Is this how they described themselves, ie occupation (how pompous!). I don't think there were any titles in the family ...

Afraid I'm  not familiar with the 1851 CD - do you need an address to get anywhere? I'm just wondering where Edward Elworthy was then - at 15 he was probably at school, but I don't know where. He's the one I'm mostly after ...

Many thanks again,

Ros

Ros,

Let me know if you need any more details.  It would be the 'awkward' one you needed most wouldn't it LOL  :)

Thanks again Debbie. Edward Elworthy was the patriarch of a huge NZ family - my husband's g-grandfather. He is writing a family history so will be delighted for one more clue!

Cheers,

Ros

Hi again Debbie,

This seems very cheeky, but it has just occurred to me that maybe you could do 1841 as well? I'm not sure what form these early censuses come in - maybe this is pushing my luck TOO far ;D ;D

Grateful for any help!

Hi Ros,

Unfortunately I haven't got 1841 yet.  I  have requested a look up for 1841 Wellington myself but haven't received a reply yet  :(

I've had success with other parts of Somerset though so might be worth putting a separate request here.
