Hi Sussexgirl,

Do you have Mabel in the 1911 Ontario census?

There is a Mabel French living in Peterborough, Ontario with a Cross family.

Karen

The passenger lists from 1865 to 1922 have just come on-line, they are not indexed though.....

I actually just found Mabel on the passenger lists...

She arrived on the Scotain in Dr. Barnados party, headed to Margaret Cox's house in Peterborough, Ontario.  She is listed as 14 years old, page 29

Date of Departure:  1920 - 06 - 15, London, England
Date of Arrival:  1920 - 06 -29, Montreal, Quebec

Hello Sussexgirl
I can certainly do photocopies for you. Her name was Mabel E B French and she was sent to Canada in June 1920. If she was yours, then I will also check in the old school magazines for any other mentions of her.
I won't post my e-mail address here, but if you look at my One-Name Study Profile (for Gidley) at www.one-name.org, you will see my e-mail address at the very end. If you e-mail me direct, we can arrange things. I am really pleased to have found someone who is interested in one of these girls - there are 10 altogether and we have a wonderful scrapbook about them. I am just about to post all their names on the BritishHomeChildren rootsweb list.

Good morning Judith, it would be wonderful to have copies of what you have but I am now having doubts as to whether this is my Mabel   :-\ :-\ I am at work at present but will check later as I dont recall Mabel having any other christian names.  She was born in Worthing and had a brother Peter and sister Irene, they were all put in Barnados homes when their father died.  The sad thing is that whilst Mabel went to Canada, Peter and Irene were sent to Australia.

I will contact you later when I have checked my records.

Sorry for the delay in replying Karen, but thank you so much for finding Mabel on the passenger lists.  I have tried a number of places but obviously not the right ones!! We are just hoping that one day we will be able to contact  someone from her direct family.

Hello Sussexgirl
I'm afraid your e-mail hasn't come through yet. Do you want to try again? And I have photocopied what we have. Just need an address to send it to!
