Morpeth Records Centre
« on: Sunday 21 August 05 22:30 BST (UK) »
Has anyone else seen the notice about the Records Centre at Morpeth being closed until the end of next year??

NEWS FLASH
The Northumberland County Record Office and Morpeth Record Centre will be closed from 5 September 2005 and will remain closed until we re-open at our new purpose-built premises at Woodhorn in late 2006.
The planned closure will allow staff to stocktake collections, re-package collections in conservation grade materials, undertake preparatory work on our e-catalogue, plan the removal of approximately four miles of records to Woodhorn and work on a number of other projects that will contribute to the Woodhorn project.

That might cause a few problems and delays.  Just when I wanted to visit.  Bad timing on my part !!

Some of the records are going to be available at Morpeth Library though after 12th September (the church records on microfilm).

Depends what you want to look at of course..

I was going to check out some Parish Records for BMD's for St Johns Church, Newcastle.  I understand they were held at Morpeth.

I was going to talk dear hubby into a combined visit to meet his relatives and trip to records office.
You know, as you do........

Looks like I could head to the library, then, if it's the Church records I'm after.

Thanks, Veron.

Looks like some discrepency about the date, but fairly imminent.  Could be time to arrange a pre-Christmas family visit....

"Woodhorn" is not just the new site for the Northumberland County Record Office.

The  Woodhorn complex will include a museum etc.

And I have heard that  different parts are opening on different dates ( this is hearsay, and not authoratitive)
