Hi Mark

I couldn't find any John HOWLETTS living at Cretingham in 1841, and in 1851 only one John gives his place of birth as Cretingham.

1851 Suffolk Census Index.
HO107/1797/23
Framsden
Suffolk

HOWLETT

Thomas, 45, b Earl Soham
Lyda, 46, b Ashfield
Thomas, 20, b Ashfield
George, 18, b Framsden
Sarah, 15, b Cretingham
John, 12, b Cretingham
Eliza, 9, b Cretingham
James, 6, b Cretingham

This family is in Cretingham in 41, but without John. The 41 does not give relationships within families, marital status, or exact place of birth.  It only indicates whether or not someone was born in the census county.  Ages are often rounded to nearest 5.

HO107/1028/5/5
Low Road
Cretingham
Suffolk

HOWLETT
(All born Suffolk
Thomas, 35, Ag Lab
Lydia, 35
Thomas, 11
Harriet, 9
George, 8
Sarah, 6
Thomas, 2

This could be John in 41, living with John and Sarah. Note that there are 2 infant Johns in the household.

HO107/1017/8/16
Westhall
Suffolk

HOWLETT
(All born Suffolk
John, 50, Ag Lab
Sarah, 45
Richard? 15
Henry, 15,
Eliza, 8
Emily, 5
John, 3
John, 5

There is a volunteer with the Cretingham Parish Records who offers lookups at the Suffolk Surname List.

Hi John

I found this marriage.

Thomas HOWLETT to Lydia WARNER at Framsden, 7th February, 1832.  Both single and of the parish of Framsden.

I have the Framsden Parish Records on microfiche, so do let me know if you would like me to check for anyone.

Rick :)

Just in case this is of interest;

In 1861, at Bridge House in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, a Lydia Howlett is listed as a 40yr old widow, working as a Housekeeper. She states her birthplace as Norfolk, New Buckenham.

Of the Howlett's in Littleport at this time, the others are part of my Wymondham > Mildenhall > Littleport migration.. but she doesn't fit in.

..and i've just noticed, when i scrolled up the thread, that ASHFIELD has been mentioned.

My John Howlett was born c.1785, allegedly in Ashfield. His family were then born in the 1830s in Wymondham.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the interest & The reply. I've not been working on this line directly for some time. However once I've had chance to chat with another 'cousin' I'll let you know if and how it fits,

Cheers,
Mark
