East Retford Notts, Marriage look ups Please
« on: Monday 06 December 10 03:58 GMT (UK) »
Marriage of Samuelis Varley & Douglasiae Whitaker (or could be Whitacres) on September 2, 1707 at East Retford, Nottingham.

Would someone be able to view this marriage entry and confirm it is accurate for me, please?

Thank you
Debra

Hi Debra

I found this one dated 1707, but her name was not Whitaker

They married by licence - 2 Sept 1707

Samuel Varley of East Retford, glasier, 25 & Doulass SCOTT of Epworth, Lincs, spr, 21 at East Retford. Witness Richd Varley snr.

Where was the information from that her name was Whitaker?

Hi Carol,

The info I've found &/or been given varied with her surname however I've gone back through my notes and originally I had Whitaker but have noted someone else's research did have her as Scott.

" Her father was  William Scott, born Abt. 1650 in Haxey, Lincolnshire, England1, and died Apr 1701 in Burnham, Haxey, Lincolnshire, England.  He married  Elizabeth Yryn.  She was born Abt. 1650 in Lincolnshire, England, and died Abt. 1688 in Haxey, Lincolnshire, England.
"

I've also noted burial for Elizabeth Yryn (wonder where that name originates?) & christening for Douglasiea with these parents at Haxey March 19, 1680.

Given the witness was Richard Senior, the groom's father, this confirms everything. It also presumably gives Samuelis a brother named Richard Junior.   Presume the marriage was in the Parish Church of East Retford?
Could I ask another lookup please?  Samuelis was born Stow-in-Lindsay, Lincs but I've his father Richard Varley  as unconfirmed birth circa 1660 in East Retford (I'd not noticed that yesterday, not  touched this tree for a while).  I don't have the parents names but if you have time & access are you able to look this up too please?

Thank you very much for the marriage.
kind regards
Debra
