The link below for Watertown Public Library, has a research facility "Ask A Librarian" - its says they commonly get asked questions on history and genealogy so maybe this could be worth an e-mail to see if Edward Stagg did marry Jessie McAlpine in Watertown. Middlesex. Massachusetts.

Edward does not seem to be a popular name in Scotland. Not one Edward Stagg married in Scotland 1855-2006.
