COMPLETED THANKS - Fordham - bapt lookups
« on: Tuesday 07 December 10 03:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I did post this request some time ago and am re-doing it in the hope someone may have access to the Fordham PRs.

I am looking for the baptism entry for Charlotte Besseck* in about 1822. I believe her mother to be Ann Bissack .
*(Bessack/Bissick/Bessick)

Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,
I have a lot of ancestors from Fordham, but it is in Cambridge not Essex, unless there are two Fordham's of course. I am sure someone will say if there is one in Essex that I don't know about. However there is a Charlotte Bissick born 1822 on the 1841 census aged 19 years living with the Sanson family in Stockwell Street, Colchester. Of course being the 1841 there is only very limited info about her. In the profession line there is an F S, but I don't know what this means. The person above her living at the house was a Coatmaker, so I guess it is possible she could have been doing something in this line, but this would purely be a guess I am afraid.
regards.

Hello Paco,

Thanks for for your help.

My Charlotte was married in Bloomsbury  in 1849 and I found she was  baptised  in Fordham, Essex taken from the 1861 census of East Hendred, Berks  where her husband  Thomas Froude, a groom, was then working.

I don't have the 1841 census details but its interesting to note that on her marriage certificate no first name is listed
for her father other than Bessick and his occupation a "Tailor". This seems to tie in with "Coatmaker" for the person above her, what ever the name is??.

So far as churches go I believe it was All Saints, Fordham, Essex where she was baptised.

I wonder if the 1851 census reveals any more info.?

Hi Sharon,

Many thanks for that info.   Yes thats the family.
Was it taken from the 1851 census?.

On the 1861 & 1881 censuses it states her place of Birth as being Fordham, Essex. but obviously being 6 miles
away from Colchester that was the place listed.

Now to confirm her baptism from the registers.

1841 census; George Sansom 37 years-clerk, Rebecca Sansom 31 years -presumably his wife, Mary Sansom 6 years and Henry Sansom 2 years-children, George Sansom 77 years- possibly the first George's father wool coatmaker, Charlotte Bissik 19 years born Essex and Mary Burchell 25 years born Essex. The family are living at Stockwell Street, West, St Martin, Colchester, Essex. This is on findmypast.

Hi Paco & Sharon,

Thank you both for your help.

Its looking definite that Charlotte was born/bapt. in 1822, so now finding
her entry.
Unfortunately  the PRs for Fordham are'nt on line so it means a
register lookup.
