GERMANY: Carl Hartwig Berlin to England
« on: Thursday 12 May 05 14:36 BST (UK) »
Could anyone tell me the best way of finding when Carl Robert Ferdinand Hartwig 1854 (know after 1881 as Robert Hardwick) came to England and then how to trace his family in Berlin?
Eccleston, Farmer, Hampton, Ridgway, Hayward, Brough, Walker, Horn, Hardwick (Hartwig), King, Hibbard.  Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Shropshire, Devon, London.

I don't know exactly he was called German British Subject in 1881 census.  This is for a friend, he isn't in my tree, her mother was telling us a tale of how his family home was stoned during the first world war when the locals found out he was German, it wasn't until he explained that his eldest son had already died fighting for Britain early in the war that they were left alone.  Made me think about having a look for them to see if I could find where he came from.

I will look at the places you suggest thank you.
