Hmmm Sue, just like the last one... lacking in details.
Ed's how do you know this George Howard is yours...... I know that sounds darft :P but it just may give a clue..... :D 8)
-
wow ta for everything so far good peeps.. that Beckbury in Shropshire looks interesting toni. George and Rachel had 2nd son named Samuel.. sigh....
Yes Lesanne that is the correct Rachel. I have seen their marr entry and had no witnesses :( :(
I guess its the case of gathering what can be found and then I sift thro.
I have their descendants etc no worries. Just George's birth has escaped my family and I.
Lesanne, know he is mine for sure,Samuel his son is from whom we descend. He married Ann Lloyd ( whose father is also a brick wall !!!) and Ann's dau Rachel is "mine". My dad was born in Worksop and he remembers his g/mother Rachel.
Sure appreciate you all.

Well, I found the family in 1841 by looking for a clearer name on the page which was Thomas Jukes age 15. Then had sbadger have a look also.
HO107/908/11 Folio: 24; Page: 10
Indexed as HOVEARD
The folio has been given as 24.. but I look at the page tis 25.
All very interesting aye what. Have been wondering why such a huge gap 1840 to 1850.. challenging lot this.

Eds
-
:D Hello Ed's.. Hows you... been unable to get into chat for months... :-X
1841 ~ Hoveard ~ Hales Owen, does this then become Hales Owen Street? Langby Green. Oldbury.
1851 & 1861 Hales Owen Street, Oldbury.
Toni, what I'm a thunking is.... one of those deaths :( may well be a daughter, that has the name of George's mother..... :-\
Hmmmm....... ;D
Added....Rachael's parents... William and Hannah.
-
G'day to you Lesanne.. am fine ta.. hope youre the same.
Now.. you have indeed bought up an very good thought about the daughter. I have always thought it "rude" they didnt provide a dau for me to help track George's parents.
Been thinking Joseph or Samuel a daddy for him, the names of their first 2 sons.Rachel's g/daddy was a Joseph.
Eds
-
Hi Les,
i geussed you were thinking that but no Hannah or Rachel death
Eds, what do you think of the p.s at Bucks? no George but right time frame, siblings? or perhaps one of them transpired to be George
-
:( Howard female death's 1841-1850
Elizabeth - Jun 1842
Mary Ann -Jun 1842
Mary Powel - Jun 1843
Sarah - Mar 1848

Lizzy and Sarah (both named).... found sub entry for George Howard and Lizzy Sarah Crockett 28/5/1809 Wooburn, Buckinghamshire (Bucks).
Trying to find birth of Elizabeth Crockett. Several in Bucks but, only one in Staffs... 8)
??? Could this be a rellie and the reason for moving there ???
Back later... :P :P Must do some chores about this palace.....
-
not finding much time to get a look in here,
will try harder tonight when OH goes out ;) ;D
-
Les aren't we looking for George Howards bp.? and not Joseph?
Sue do you have access to Bucks bps?
shall i look fo George jnr in 1861? he apperars in 1871 aged 16
-
hmmm George Howard grandon in 1861 , not sure hes ours though as it seems his father also George is with him ?
RG9; 787; : 30; 30;
where was George jnr born? Moxley ? Loxley ? Notts?
-
If I recall, Joseph is George's father. Of course, the names appear in other generations.
-
how do we know Joseph is Georges father if we havent found his bp. ?
isn't that the purpose of this hunt?
-
looking for George Junior in 1861 hoepfuly with relatives proves fruitless, there are few grandchildren and servants around but how do we know which one is him?
and looking agian for his birth in 1855 or thereabouts staffordshire according to the 1871 census just gives wo options 1851 & 1852 ???
-
:D Morning Peeps,

All of the above is just supposition!!

Just gotta do dinner.... BBL ;D
-
What are we looking for and i will try and help :)
Cant guarantee anything though, ive no knowledge of the area, why cant it be Berks ;D ;D

Les do you think its worth following up the Howards bp. Bucks i found earlier, no George though?
PS have you looked at FHO? i only checked IGI
-
FHO:~
George HOWARD found in Buckinghamshire Baptisms 2 entries in Buckinghamshire between 1814 and 1820
-
Just want to ask if this is def him in 1841 as his age is 25 but in 1851 he is 40 ???
-
Sue, Eds said yes because he is descended from Samuel
-
Okies... which part of Bucks and the years.... :P :P lets get going..
1841 is rounded down.. so 29 is possible age in 1841.. :-\
I think Sue is talking about George Snr
-
I was looking for George jnr hoping he would be with relatives in 1861 i.e. George snrs parents but its a no starter there are too many to choose from.
FHO between 1810 & 1820 just has the two entries and i did include for variants of Howard but not variants for George
I am not sure how well the IGI covers Bucks. bps. in particular
and yes he could be 29 in 1841 maybe his birthday was the day after the 1841 census so he couldhave been 29 and 364 days !

Old Meeting House Independent, Buckingham, Buckingham,
JOSEPH HOWARD - : 19 SEP 1823
Joseph aka George?
heres hoping
Isn't it rubbish on the tv tonight!
Les the family that Sue found had a Daniel, that looked promising but Eds George wasnt married 3 times
perhaps he wasn't a Howard he was indexed obscurley in 1841
maybe he was a Hayward / Hayworth and he became a victim of mistranscription ? mishearing
did he know how to write? would he have known that wasn't his real surname ?
-
::) Our grandad was 'Alf' .. always was Alf... married as Alfred.... Died as Alfred.
Grrrrrrrrrr....... Bapt Lawrence..... lawrdy :P

i'm turning off now, going to greyhounds on thee morrow (night)
-
Ah... Lincolnshire again ???
Worth a little looky there.... don't you think ... maybe tomoz.
-
My goodness I LOVE the way your minds work!!!!!
toni... my sister has the marr cert of Samuel and Ann,
has George as his father.. and lo and behold Edward
Cartwright is one of the witness and a Mary Ann Turner
the other.
Joseph who has a wife Sarah is the oldest son of George
and was living next door to Samuel and Ann in 1871. The
family used the name Samuel. #2 son of George and Rachel;
Sam the # 2 son of William H who is a son of George n Rachel
Samuel the 5th son another blinking George who is the son
Samuel and Ann. (there is another story there, I will solve
that by getting George and Hannah marr cert.. their ages
not add up in 1891 and 1901)
George born abt 1855 had to be somewhere in 1861...
sigh..........
George who is responsible for this hunt and for our
insanity seemed to like to give different ages in the
census. The age given on his death cert maybe (???)
correct so mean born 1810ish
BTW it just occurred to me.. George n Rachel marr in
1834... why do we only have first child Joseph in 1837
and that child isn't on the GRO so guess he was born
before Sept qtr.
Ta muchly everyone
Eds
-

;D Morning Ed's... I'm looking at 1700's for the family in Burwell... not 1800's
-
ooooooooooo DUhhhhhhhh me..... not nuff sleep or
the brain has to get into gear.
-
::) Typical... Problem with the records. Bapts between 1800 and abt 1818 not there.
I posted the IGI link, to show there are several batches but that time is missing......
This makes it all the more interesting as it may well be the right George as we can't find him..... :D
-
You know, interesting ISN'T the word that comes to
my mind.....................................
-
Might be an idea to post on Cambridge boards to see if there's a visit to the Records Office.
Just to see if he is indexed. We have the time frame... ;) Worth a go....
I'm turning in... Nitey... :D
-
Morning All,
Hows your pet this morning Lesanne?
Ok so are we still looking for Burwell Howards? ???
If not what are we looking for, who and where? :) :)
-
wow I sure have some food for thought now
I appreciate greatly all the time you have spent for me.
jamajo.... I see you have LLOYD in Berkshire.. wouldnt be
connected to a John Lloyd born abt 1745ish plus or minus
5 yearsish ?????
How's Pippy Lesanne
Eds
-
Hi Eds,
My Lloyds are mostly in Abingdon and Warborough so if your John is from there we may
have a common interest :)
Whats your thoughts on the Burwell lot, is it worth following them up or not :-\
-
Well, I am so desperate for this George I will follow up
all thoughts and suggestions !!!!!
As for John Lloyd have no idea where he was born. He
marr a Sarah Giles in 1775 Stanford in the Vale.
Ta again for your help
-
do you have Samuel birth cert? or one of the children born after 1841 to confirm that his parents are George & Rachel Shingleton
-
Eds from OFHS Stanford in the Vale PRs
Marriage
Feb 27 1775 John Lloyd, bach, of East Hanney to Sarah Giles,sp by Banns
Thought id just post for you :)
Back to your Howards ;D ;D
-
Goodo ta jamajo
-
Here is George and Rachels dau Sarah b 1838 Burwell in 1861 working as a servant
in Paddington. RG9 / 7 / 124 / 33 :) :)
-
am i missing something but there doesnt seem to be a son Samuel for the George & Rachel from Burwell ???
-
:)Hiya Peeps,
Pippie seems alright. She is the most timid of them (5). Never can tell when a timid GP is ill.
I have reached the back and now approaching the top 2 shelves.... :o ;D ;D Found some old photy's. Old RAF c1940, up to concreting a drive in '94.
Will be popping in and out till I've got this job finished. Then I shall be here.
Toni, the Burwell George and Rachel look likely to be a cousin of 'our' George and Rachel.
I believe this is burwell G&R marriage....
George and Rachel Gathercole 5/9/1831 Burwell M 138533
Some batch nos for Burwell.
J 138532 Male bapts 1695-1800
K 138532 Female bapts 1695-1800

-
There is a Mary Gathercole in 1841 b Cambridgeshire living in Burwell.
Her age is 60 and noone else in household. Maybe Rachels mother ???
HO107 / 73 / 2 / 4 / 2
-
ooooo jamajo.......
Lesanne has shown the Burwell lot are most likely NOT my
lot.. wouldnt that rot your sox !! toni also brought up
a valid point supporting Lesanne's remarks....
Thanks again everyone
Eds
-
Ok back i go to page 1 ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Eds do you want just George and his parents or do you need his children as well?
I see you have some info on a couple of them but what about the others :) :) :)
-
:D Hello Sue,
Back for a T break. Nearly done....
Whats happened :o
I still think that 'our' George was born Burwell, Cambs.. but it's not transcribed... :-X We have to assume 'our'George has the same ancestors as the other couples there.
If there is a name/link to 'our' George, that would be closer. A lookup at CRO for an index would be good too !
From Burwell
Henry + Ann Mann mar 1831
George + Rachel Gathercole 1831
George + Sarah Davy 1797
William + Hannah (abt 1792+/- nee NK yet!!)
Thomas Powell + Mary Ann ? could this be the witness..... nee Turner?
The Burwell records gap seem 1755-1798 marriages and 1801-1845 bapts.
HighTown (a nearby village?) C 069871 missing 1796-1818.
Oh, where to look... what would connect to 'our' George.
Witnessess of marriage.
Visiting relations.
Visiting neighbours.
Name of his dog....... Which newspaper...... ::) ::)
-
Lesanne you mention Turners and im sure a family of that name was in Burwell when i done
the address search ::)
-
Got to admit im really confused ::) ::) Are we on Burwell Howards again?
Dont know which George to look for or where ??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yes, I thought you mentioned it. But then Turners turn up everywhere..... ::)
Just to confuse matters what about this on FreeBMD a marriage
The names Henry Howard and a Sarah Powell in Stafford on same page Sep 1890 ???
Cluthching at straws maybe ;D
Found this Powell
From Ed's....
Samuel is the only one we have a marr cert.
GRO provides the marr for his siblings.
Joseph marr Sarah Hartland 1860
Daniel " Lucy Dunstan 1872
George is a hairy one I have to order a cert either he or
a nephew marr Hannah Ryalls
Edward died 1870 age 14
Henry died 1861 age 2
Now Ryalls would be great to find..... 8)
;D ;D We are not going to find 'our' George 'cause he wouldn't be transcribed here in Burwell. But we could find the Dad and Mum. Uncles, Aunties and cousins.
Just need to find a name that links to 'our' George and Rachel in Staffs. Even Notts when they 'our' G&R were older.....
-
is anyone going to Cambs RO? could Eds posta look up on the Cambs board to specificly ask for george bp. circa 1810 Burwell?
whic church would it be? how many were in Burwell?
has anyone tried the early directories for Burwell although i don't know if George a cola miner from Cambs himself would be listed but parents? siblings? aunts uncles etc.
some 1821 / 31 census survived have these been checked for George?
(urm not sure how to do that myself)
-
jamajo, I am fine with his children at this stage ta, except for the George born c 1855 who cant be found in the 1861 census :( :(
Everyone......
I posted in Cambridge and have a reply
Hi Eds,
The baptism index shows that parents George and Sarah baptised four children in 1809:
Mary no age given
Phoebe aged 2
Sarah aged 5
George aged 7
There are other children in other years - http://www.cfhs.org.uk/BaptismIndex/index.html
Selina
So what you think ?
Thanks again
Eds
-
hmmm so there was a George Howard bp in Burwell in 1809 but aged 7 thus making him b. circa 1802 i wonder if he is too old to be your George?
what do you think ofthe George Howard who was bp. a 24 days in 1809 Litlington? (we have one of those in Sussex) s/o Wm & Mary?
We dont know that George senior father was also called George.... yet
i'm confused over the Buckingham mention on the census at least 2 mention this.
and would have to go with the lot in Bucks i fund earlier although there was no George mentioned, i think if i get time later today i will follow these guys up.
re George junior do you have him in later census i.e. after 1871 ?
did you note there wasn't a birth frohim in Staffs in 1855, not under George Howard anyway.
only 1851 & 52 so his age would be a bit out ???
-
Hi All,,
Ive been searching 1861 for ages trying to find George with no luck.
Can you tell me where is Moxley, where is it near? :) :)
-
Found a Moxley about 11 miles north west-ish of West Bromich/south west-ish of Walsal
Is this of any help?

It's a long trawl, but probably have to find the siblings of George via witnessess, visitors etc.
It took me 40+yrs to do it that way and still haven't got Robert Norris's birth cert. :-\ That was after that mammoth hunt I had at christmas time.
Good luck Ed's. I hope there's some peep's you can, at least, cross off your list.... ::)

Well Thank you than you very much indeed all you good people. Tis lovely to see such dedicated genie addicts out there who are happy to help others.

The George and Lizzy Sarah....
1. Have Joseph as a son (brother to George)
2. Sarah and Elizabeth both died in 1841-1850 (West Brom area)
