Father is James O'Brien - occupation carver and gilder -

Do you have William on the 1881 census - where was he born and does his birthyear confirm 1853 as per the marriage cert?
Is father James found on the 1881 census?
-

Re: my reply above - you need sight of that 1852 marriage entry to confirm James's occupation was carver & gilder
From the IGI at www.familysearch.org
ARABELLA PHIBBS Spouse: JAMES O'BRIEN Marriage: 02 MAR 1852 Saint Nicholas, Liverpool

It may also Help in finding the Right Death Record! (There were 8 James O'BRIENs died in Liverpool from Dec Qtr 1853 to Mar Qtr 1860 & 2 in West Derby Mar Qtr 1855 & Mar Qtr 1860)
-
The problem with deaths for that period is that no ages are shown on the index.
The GRO are withdrawing reference checking from 6th April which will make it very costly buying certs when you have multiple matches

Then we have to resort (If/When we can) to trawling through the Death/Burial Registers! ::)

Hi
Thanks for all of the information in respect of the O'Briens - it really has been extremely helpful. I have only just started researching the family so at the moment have little more than your responses. So thank you again, and will try and find more on the 1881 census

Hi
You will not find anything more of help on the 1881 census. What is needed is proof that the 1861/1871 entries I found are the correct ones
This can only be achieved by either buying a copy of the 1852 marriage cert for James & Arabella, or looking it up at Liverpool Records office to ascertain what James's occupation was

I am a little confused here....BEVINGTON ??...is this supposed to be a district of Liverpool....we have Kensington / Cressington ....but no Bevington...can someone enlighten me please...There is BEBINGTON but this is across the Mersey and is actually Cheshire
..and also West Derby was the registration office ...this covered MANY districts of Liverpool including Garston where I live.....allan :)
ADDED...ok I have found the marriage on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk
Elizabeth J Chapman to William O`Brien at St Alban, Liverpool 2017LP/2/451
this church was off Vauxhall Road just on the edge of Liverpool City Centre....

Hi
The marriage took place at St Alban, Bevington, which was in Limekiln Lane, the church closed in 1941. Whether it got its name from nearby Bevington St or not, I'm not sure

Hi Garstonite
The St Alban, Bevington was C of E not RC. St Alban Catholic Church in Vauxhall Rd was a different church.

Thanks Andy....I`m 59 and lived in Liverpool all my life.....and I`ve never heard of Bevington.....I`m embarassed because I pride myself on knowing "every inch" of Liverpool....oh the shame...lol....allan :o
-
Hi Garstonite
I must admit I'd never heard of Bevington before so once I realised the marriage was in Liverpool and not Bebington I googled. I'm not sure that it was actually a parish though
