No birth reg for that name but there are 2 Francis William Ritchie births on SP both in 1901 - one in Macduff & the other Banff so you will need to check

Was that incoming record the right one ?
Rosie

Hi Rosie
1922 ties in with the info I have on him going out there as a tea planter
Although it appears he may have finally come back in late 1938, so 1929 may have been a visit back home after 7 years away?
-
Don't see any other records for him searching with just a surname was the address in Aberdeen familiar ? ..I'm assuming he remained in Macduff
Rosie
-
Hi Rosie
It appears the address in town is new news to his Son, although he wasn;t born until the 1950s

From " Photographers in Northern Scotland c1850-1914"
Ritchie John Junior
1903-1914+ 69 Duff Street Macduff
This is the same address as in the opening post.
There are articles re Frank Ritchie photographer in the Press and Journal 8 April 1991 and 15 July 1991 regarding a collection of his work which had been maintained by his widow. " He operated from a family owned shop in the Banffshire fishing town". The first article says he died in 1955 - the second in the 1950's.
His death may, therefore, be this one,
Ritchie Frank William Age at death 53 1954 Banff RD.
The newspaper archive also has the death notice of mother Christina Ritchie in 1915 ( address again given as 69 Duff Street) and a second marriage for father John in 1923 to Bessie Hutcheon - article refers to "John Ritchie the well known Macduff photogarpher and sportsman". and also states that after the marriage he was leaving Macduff and going to live in Aberdeen.

That is great additional background William :) A little more here on John Jnr (Frank's dad we are assuming here) www.foggieloan.co.uk/arts-culture/early-20th-century-photographers/
Also here www.foggieloan.co.uk/44library/postcards/photographers/history.htm
Alan, Frank's son must be aware of his father's photography background in later years after he came back to Scotland?

Maybe the address that Frank gave when he came back to the UK (Glenburnie House, Skene Street Aberdeen) in 1929 connects with his father if he moved there after his second marriage?
Monica
Added: the 1929-30 Aberdeen Post Office Directory does have John Ritchie Jnr but at a different address https://archive.org/details/postofficeab192930aber/page/452/mode/2up
-
The 1928-9 directory is the one https://archive.org/details/postofficeab192829aber/page/456/mode/2up
John Ritchie showing with two addresses, work premises (Shooting School) and home which showed as Glenburnie House, Skeene Street. So, from the details that Rosie found earlier, Frank gave his father's address for his shipping manifest records when he came home in 1929.

Great Information again.
In the 1911 Census, there was John Senior, and his son John Jnr (photographer) and his wife Christina. 69 Duff Street.
John Snr was involved in shooting as in 1910 he was shot in the back at Duff House whilst inspecting a trap and taken to Hospital.
Christina dies in 1923 (age 40). John Marries again in 1925 to Bessie Hutcheon. They move to stay in Aberdeen, Tuesday 22 May 1928 (P&J) John Ritchie is mentioned at Glenbirnie House, Skene Street. So when he came back from Sri Lanka (Ceylon) in 1929 he gave that address - his father's - John Jnr.
Unsure where he went after that, the Frank Ritchie at 132 Duff St appears to be an Engineer (car) and the one injured in WW1
The book, I have. more photos about boats although does show he took photos during the war through a case with a hole in it of damage, despite him being an official photographer for the Office of Information and an ARP role.
Frank died in 1954 age 55 at the Chalmers Hospital in Banff.
I have been speaking to Frank's son - also Frank, although he was young when his father died, and is looking to get info for an aunt and his sister to a lot of the gaps in the info.
