Hi, Im trying to trace a Annie Glenn who married a Hugh Cunningham in 1888. Its Annie's birth I'm having difficulty tracking down. Her parents were Patrick Glenn and Mary MacCallum or Mary Healy.
-
With names like those, she could perhaps have been from Ireland, which might explain why you are having difficulty finding her.
Assuming that she was married in Scotland her marriage certificate should tell you what her mother's maiden surname was.
And assuming that she was in Scotland the 1891 or later census will tell you where she was born.
Assuming that she died in Scotland her death certificate should also tell you her mother's maiden name.
All these documents are available at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk at modest cost.

Thanks for that, I have been thru Scotlands people, Irish genology family search and Ancestry. Still struggling to tie her in and marry up dates. But I'll keep looking thank you

Hugh Cunningham married Annie Glen in 1888 Camlachie
Marriage Ref 644/2/231
You can download marriage record from Scotlands People.
If you already have it, what parent names and occupation do you see?
The census shows that both Annie and Hugh were born in Ireland
Annie Glen about 1865, and Hugh Cunningham about 1863.
What age is she when she married?
-
Annie Glen, other name Cunningham, mms Healy, died aged 65 in Camlachie in 1930
SP death record 644 / 2 / 152

Do you have her marriage certificate, and at least one census with her on it?
If so, what do they tell you?
If not, getting those is your next step.
And BTW Ancestry will not have what you are looking for unless someone else has been researching her.

Hi Mags
Looks like there is a likely sister, Helen, who died in 1907 in Camlachie, like Annie:
HELEN GLEN
Age 39
Mother's maiden name HEALY
1907
Ref 644 / 2 / 396
Camlachie
Possible entry for Helen with siblings in 1901?:
James Glen 20 head mason b. Ireland
George Glen 22 brother mason b. Glasgow
Patrick Glen 20 brother bricklayer b. Glasgow
Mary Ann Glen 34 sister housekeeper b. Ireland
Helen Glen 31 sister tailoress b. Glasgow
Elizabeth Glen 18 sister Underclothing Machinist b. Glasgow
Address 27 Cameron St, Glasgow/Kelvin
I would start with checking Helen's death reg in 1907 to confirm her details first.
Monica
Added: The family in 1901 do show in Scotland from 1881, but parents showing as a George and Helen. So, as mentioned, if you, I would have a look at Helen's death reg in 1907.

Her parents were Patrick Glenn and Mary MacCallum or Mary Healy.
Was Healy Mary's maiden name and MacCallum from a remarriage or first marriage? Were parents showing as alive or deceased when Annie married in 1888?
What were the names of the witnesses when Annie married?
Questions, questions... ;)

This 1881 census entry looks interesting:

Hannah Glen 21 Niece Bleachfield Worker b. Ireland
Anne Glen 17 Niece Bleachfield Worker b. Ireland
Ellen Glen 14 Niece Messenger b. Ireland
James Lynch 27 Boarder b. Ireland
Address 11 College St. Dumbarton

Many if not all of which will be answered by the marriage certificate once mags c has actually got it.

From your reply, I think you may have viewed the death index but not the actually document / certificate, and that you don't have the marriage certificate either.
The marriage certificate is the one most likely to be correct, as the the information will have been given by Annie Glen herself. The actual certificates hold much more information than appears on the index.

Thank you all very much. I will have a look tomorrow, and see what I can uncover.
Many thanks

Hi Guys,
Marriage certificate for Annie Glen. Father : Patrick Glen, Mother: Mary Healy.
witness Ellen Glen. Census shows both Hugh and Annie were born in Ireland.
Cheers everyone
-
Witness Ellen Glen is who we have above as likely sister to Annie. Ellen married John Fullerton in 1889 in Camlachie. John Fullerton shows as the other witness to Annie's 1888 marriage.

What age was Annie at the time of her marriage?
-
Hi says she was 23 ?
-
Sorry hit wrong button, I have her marriage certificate and the 1901 and the 1911 census. I also have the marriage certificate for Hugh Cunninghams parents from Ireland. Its Annies parents that are confusing me. Her father was a master baker. Its her mother Im stuck with. Marriage certificate says Mary Healy, but most of my records state her mother as Mary mccallum. So either her mother died in Ireland and dad remarried, or I have the wrong family :'(
-
Were her parents still living when Annie married?
-
Which certificates state her mother as Mary McCallum?
-

You have her marriage certificate and (I assume) her death certificate, both of which say that her mother's maiden surname was Healy.
When you say, "most of my records state her mother as Mary mccallum", what are these records that you have that suggest that her mother's maiden surname was McCallum?
-
A clip from the 1888 marriage shown below.
Mags, I haven't seen any reference to Mary and the surname McCallum. Also, no reference to father Patrick being a master baker. He shows in three documents that I have seen as a agricultural labourer or just labourer.
He also shows as deceased by the time daughter Helen Glen Fullerton died in 1907. In Helen's death reg, her mother is showing as still alive. From the way it is written up, she was born Mary Healy, married a Quigley and then Patrick Glen.
-
Thank you all for your help. As I suspected Ive been chasing the wrong family, as in Annies parents and siblings.
-
But your Annie did marry a Hugh Cunningham in Glasgow at that time? From their census details, you have confirmed the child of theirs that you are following?
We are happy to keep looking at things with you :) Just need an update on what documents you have to date that you are happy 100% are the correct ones for Annie.

Thanks Monica for all your help.

Care to elucidate? Is Mary Healy's daughter not the one you are looking for, then?
-
A bit strange that Hugh and Annie didn't use the name Patrick for any of their sons.
If Annie was born 1865 then her birth should be recorded in Irish statutory records
-
If Annie was born 1865 then her birth should be recorded in Irish statutory records
I've been through all the registered births of Glen(n)s with given named, Ann(e), Mary, Helen, Ellen or unnamed but haven't found any with mmn Healy.
I could of course have missed one, but I don't think I'd have missed two.
-
Perhaps she was older than she stated at the time of her marriage and missed the introduction of statutory registration
-

Could be, but her younger sister Ellen should have been registered too.
-
For Forfarin, yes it is Mary Heally Im searching for, but cannot find her anywhere. Thats where I got confused with Patrick Glen and Mary MacCallum!!!!!
-
Good to have that clarified :)
