Thanks all. Afraid I don't know Robert's wifes name. Their only daughter was Ellen, so it's possible it's Ellen - but could be wrong of course. Ellen's daughters were called Ellen Jamieson Ridgway, Mary Jane Ridgway and Jessie Lyenburn (or Lymburn) Ridgway so might be one of those!! Cleo.

Hi there. Yes i have a date; the 7th April 1840. Shortly after this time they went to live out in Brazil as 3 of their children were born there between 1841 and 1846. Regards Cleo.

Lanarkshire / Robert Jamieson (Glasgow merchant)

I'm looking for any information about one of my ancestors: Robert Jamieson. All I know so far is that he was probably born around 1780, he had only one daughter Ellen (b.1809)  but he may have had sons too. He was a merchant trading both in Glasgow and Liverpool. I think one of his business partners was Joseph Ridgway (Jamieson Ridgway & Co and Ridgway Jamieson & Co).His daughter Ellen married Joseph in 1840 at St Judes in Glasgow. Any leads greatly appreciated.  Regards Cleo.

There's probably a simple answer to this, but does anyone know if there's a way of searching the Census records using just an address (i.e. not using a name)? Advice welcome. Cleo.

Hi Carole. I've got the "Extract of entries in the old parochial register" but it only gives their names and where they are from. Cleo.
