That's interesting! Will have a look into this.
I was actually in California for a wedding/visiting friends last December!

I would definitely recommend visiting Aberdeen, New Pitsligo and around Braemar/Linn of Dee when in Scotland, to name but a few wonderful places in Aberdeenshire. In NP there is a fabulous cafe at the old Bus Station too...and definitely worth looking round the main cemetery on the hill, and the Episcopalian one.

Kind regards,
Sandie.

That's interesting- thanks for your message.
Do you live in the area? I come back to Aberdeen a lot, and have been up to NP a few times and seen the houses where my family lived- some are still there.

I'm still trying to find out for certain who Nathaniel's birth dad was- I know it was William Hepburn, but haven't got a definite so I can continue to trace our paternal line.

Maggie and Alexander were also illegitimate- not sure who their dad's were but Alec has an RCE next to his entry so will have to try to get a read of that some time.

Kind regards,
Sandie Mutch.

I do- many thanks. (Although John's dad is 'reputed' I think I'll go with that- James Scott/Jane McKenzie.)

However, still stuck on if the labourer lodging at 33 Low St in the 1881 census was my g. granda's dad...it says he was born in NP but there are no WH's listed at being born there 20 years or so previously- but there is one born in Pitsligo which would pretty much fit...the other 2 WH's in NP in 1881 were in their 70's, and 12, so I think I can rule them out!

I hope that someone has some family secret/folklore that will confirm Nath's paternity as I suspect this is the only way I can be certain!

Kind regards,
Sandie.

Thanks GR2...nice to know my childhood memory is accurate...albeit a vary sad tale. My dad was only two at the time, so wouldn't have remembered it, but I'm sure his family would have talked about it for years to come...and now I always tell my teenager the same story when we're up North, so the story is living on!

Kind regards,
Sandie.

Ah- so you did- sorry, I missed it! That story used to fascinate me when I was young, and when I'm 'back hame' and come up Anderson Drive I always think of it. Will try to take a look in the cemetery some time- would be interesting if the pilots are buried there- amid several of my relatives!

Kind regards,

Sandie.

Better late than never- you may know this by now but just in case, my dad told me on several occasions that they were building an ice rink on South Anderson Drive, before you get to by the Duthie Park, (on the right if I remember- just before the roundabout where the shops/ski slope etc are now, if you're heading South)- but as it was bombed, it was never finished...not sure if this is true, or just one of dad's storeis, but would be intersted to hear if anyone can confirm it!
