Hello Quartin,

I am one of the Neilston Carswells, also descended from Allan Carswell & Agnes Howie, who is part of the Carswell DNA Project.

I am not descended from Robert Carswell/ Agnes Waugh but my 3rd cousin once removed is.

The best way to make contact with him & me would be through FTDNA, Carswell Project. The co-ordinator Ian Carswell could give me your contact details, if that was OK. Explain what you have in mind & he will no doubt contact me.

Thanks for passing he post on Jolo.

                   Regards,

                     John Carswell.

Hello Debra,

Many thanks for taking the time to look up & send me the information. I know about my distant relation Allan Carswell who was transported to Tasmania .

I have found all of the other information on the old note to be correct so it is a mystery that there are no records of my Alexander Carswell either in the British Isles or Australia.

I suppose there is a chance that he died enroute.

Kind regards & thank you again.

                                      John Carswell.

Hello List.

I have been searching for the death of Alexander Carswell for many years. The only information I have is from a old hand writen family tree  that he died in Van Dieman's Land.

Alexander Carswell was born 2 June 1783 to Allan Carswell & Agnes Howie at Craig of Neilston farm Neilston Parish Renfrewshire Scotland.

I do not know whether he was a convict or a free settler. It is a complete mystery. To date I have been unable to find any information on him in the Tasmanian records.

Any information or advice would be gratefully received.

                    Regards,

                         John Carswell. NSW Australia.

Australia / RJ Knott's Carswell Interest
« on: Sunday 18 April 10 21:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello Mr. Knott,

I noticed that you have an interest in the name Carswell & wondered whether we have any connection ?. My Carswells were tenant farmers in Neilston for many centuries. DNA tests suggest that they lived in the County Down area in Northern Ireland in the 5th C.

My gg grandfather Allan Carswell moved to Cheshire in 1845 to farm in Prestbury & later became Estate Agent to the Leghs of Adlington.

                     All the best,

                           John Carswell Australia.
