I thank you as well, Valda. As I stated, all that I knew was that he was a forger and was transported to Australia.
Helen, as well as 2 brothers emigrating, one of his nephews came out as well. Alan Crieff Gibson, the son of John Robinson Gibson, the embezzler, also came out and lived in Sydney, but he apparently did not marry. Herbert Shackleford Gibson did marry but had no children.
I think you have made 3 posts so if you want to send me a private message with your email address, we can start exchanging info.
Best regards
Pamela

Hi Helen,
I had heard that he changed his name to Gordon and that he was a forger, but that was all I knew.
All the other info is very welcome as I research all the branches and their decendants, if possible. If you want any info that I have, you are most welcome.
You can email me at * anytime and I will share what I have.
There is another member of the family researching as well, who lives in Canberra. I live in Brisbane.
Lucky you, actually going to England to do research. It is my dream. One day it will come true.
I am decended through William Henry's brother Arthur Edward, who emigrated with his brother Herbert Shackleford.
I have the details of Jane Robinson's christening:- 6 Oct 1792 at Old St George, Staleybridge, Cheshire, England. Father John (Rev'D) Robinson, mother Dorothy. Found on Familysearch. Image Number 756, digital Folder Number 4019198, Film Number 2356038.
If you let me know what info you have, I will fill in any details that I can.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Best regards
Pamela Kerwin

Hi Hilary
Thank you so much for that information. I knew when William and Jane were married and that they had 10 children, but all that information about the Robinsons is new to me.
I also knew about the embezzler but not the forger. Do you know what happened to John Robinson Gibson? I tracked him in the Census until 1871 and his wife to 1881. She died in 1884. I would be interested to know what happened to him.
It seems that the family that stayed in England became lawyers and doctors. It is interesting to see what happened to all the different families.
I am processing all the information that you gave me into my database. I use Legacy, as well as Ancestry.
I have a copy of Rev John Robinson's will. Could I please have a copy of John Robinson Sr's will.
I have death certificates for William Gibson and his wife Jane. If you would like copies, I am happy to share. They don't have much information unlike Aussie certificates....
I also have the Baptism, Marriage and Death  certificates of Jane Wode nee Gibson if you want them.
Best Regards
Pamela

Hi Mo
Thank you so much for that information. I would not have been able to find it myself. It is all relevant to my family, with dates I did not know about. :)

Is there a website that I can subscribe to (yearly) for searching newspapers?
I did say I would be asking silly questions. :-[
A daily or weekly subscription wouldn't be long enough, as my time for researching is limited by my hours of work.

I am currently a subscriber to ancestry, findmypast and origins. The first 2, I have had sucess with, but not the last (yet).
I googled the Bury and Norwich Post but was unable to find the information that you cited. Was there anything on the wife of Rev John Robinson?
I worked out that he is my GGGGG Grandfather. :o

Once again, I wish to say a great big thank you for the info provided
Regards
Pamela

Hello Hilary
I am a decendant of William Gibson and Jane Robinson. I am also a decendant of Philip Wode.
I am also trying to research the family but I have several holes, and from your posts that I have read, you are further in the searching than I am. In one post, you mention the name Dorothy as the wife of John Robinson (parents of Jane). Can I ask how you found out her name.
I have had very little success in my research, but thanks to this website, I now know more.
I have purchased several BDM certificates here in Brisbane, with regards to the family. If you are interested, I can share what I have with you.
Regards
Pamela

Hi Carol and Mo
Thank you so much for answering my post. Being in Australia severely limits my visiting places in England to do research.
Dates are roughly born c1767 and died 1824. I have googled the Clergy database but only found a general entry about becoming rector.
I am new at this, so please forgive me if I ask stupid questions.
What is Jacksons Oxford Journal and which paper had the marriage of his daughter? I have tried several ways to find information, but my knowledge of what is out there is limited.
I just looked at the database again and I can see he vacated his parish due to his death. I am presuming that the year 1824 is the correct year.
Thank you again

I am trying to find information on John Robinson who was Vicar of Althorne and Rector of Creeksea or Cricksea. I am a decendant through his daughter Jane who married William Gibson. I have read some posts that mention him and his wife Dorothy. I did not know his wife's name. Where can I find a source that can confirm her name.
I do have a copy of his will that also mentions a son (John) and another daughter (Dorothy Jemima).
