London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 look-up WALLDER
« on: Monday 23 February 09 14:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Jeff, not made much progress going back at all, although keeping in touch with things that are more recent,as they come on-line. In the last two years the computer that I stored all my family trees on gave up the ghost .I unplugged it whilst I decorated and then the flipping thing wouldn't start  due to battery failure, unfortunately the batteries were part of the circuit board ,so as I stupidly hadn't copied them ,I lost them all. I decided to update all my paperwork and start again, rather than have them retrieved. I am nowhere near being up to date yet as I have been transcribing for a local history site and rather enjoy doing it.
I will have a look on GenesReunited later. By the way, I did see the Wallder name on the door plate ,on Stephen Fry's WDYTYA programme and noticed you had mentioned it.  I always wondered if our forebears were German ,as I once looked up the meaning of  the Wallder name and if I remember rightly, it said dweller of the Black Forest or was it just forest! doubting myself now. Nice to hear from you . Sheila

Hi Jeff, I tried to e-mail you earlier, but I don't think  it was sent, so i'll reply here.
Firstly I thought "Jeffers " might be you and now I feel a bit of a fraud as I have already been in contact with you on the Genforum site as Sheila.
Was the late George Wallder a Londoner or was he from Sheffield?
I don't know anything about "William & Sarah" or indeed about Thomas and Joseph. I picked them up from your posting to Lorraine Painter.' and on the Census returns,(on and off)
It has struck me as strange, as you say, that it took so long for them to produce children. I wondered if  (a). they had children and they all either were registered as Walder or died along with Sarah or (b) the 3 later boys were from a second marriage. Not checked if this is the case as yet.
I have had contact with Lorraine  Painter , she is related to my Great Grandfather's brother and also to a Fiona who is related through my Grandmother's Brother.
It was spooky when you posted to me as I have just  been working on the Wallder family  since I found out all the BMD's are on Rootsweb now. I have a lot of modern information to put into my family tree mostly about people who I know but haven't seen for years and probably wouldn't recognise if I passed them in the street!
I would be happy to impart any info about my line ,should you be interested, as I am intrigued to find out if you know what happened to Joseph's first wife and children,if this is the same one that married Priscilla and  that you are descended from?
Regards Sheila

Hi Jeff, thanks for your interest, Joseph's brother William was my great great grandfather. I have a lot more information from the later period of their lives, but since I put in the request for the  info' that you are referring to, a lot more has become available online . It hasn't made Wallder's any easier to find as all our predecessors seem to have had more than one marriage or intermarried with the Gillam family!!. The fact that the name is misspelt dosen't help either. My line comes down through William's third marriage to Dinah Godwin. Please contact me again as I would love to know if my info' on Joseph is corrcet so far. regards Celia.

Hi Meliora & Jerose, I sat pondering the occupation and had thoughts that it could have meant couch maker's labourer, which would conveniently fit with the history of the area and also that it could be misread and is in fact  coach. I have just started this particular family for my best friend and it may be a while until we get round to getting the certificates for these two individuals , but  I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome. Once again thankyou very much. Regards Celia.

Hi Meliora, thanks for yor help, just what I hoped for. I can't think what  a Couch M.lab does , I take it that it does all refer to his occupation? once again thanks a lot. regards Celia

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 look up Wink

Hi, could anyone please find Joshua and Mary Wink on the 1841 census. I do not know their ages, but they married in 1835 at St Anne's Soho. I think that they died in 1848 Islington and 1846 Holborn respectively and they (I hope) were the parents of Joshua Wink, born 1841 (registered june qrt. Holborn, so maybe too late for census ) who was in the Hackney Orphanage in 1851. Many thanks for any info' regards Celia
