AGNES BURNS

I have a birth of a Robert Mackay 24 Nov 1865 Kirkmabreck to Robert Mackay and Agnes Burns!
This child born in Creetown was illegitimate and appears to have died in Dalbeattie in 1871. This explains the Robert BURNS grandson found in the 1871 census.
Your relative Robert Burns was born 3 Aug 1873 but the birth was registered in both Creetown and Dalbeattie!

I am researching the families of Alexander Ross who was born about 1805 Scremerston and Jane Turner born about 1800 in Wooler.
I am descended from their daughter Mary Ann whose birth was recorded at Wooler 1 Oct 1835.
Hope someone out there can help.

Hi,

This is an interesting lineage;-

William Copland was the son of William Copland and Fanny Mckinnell. He died 22 Mar 1897 at 34 Govanhill, Glasgow.
His father William was born abt 1817 in Dumfries and after two marriages to Christina Bell and Fanny McKinnell he died at 144 Caledonia Road, Glasgow on 7 Aug 1893.
William snr was the son of William Copland and Agnes Smith.
William snr had a brother John born 4 Nov 1823 Dumfries who was also a hairdresser married Isabella Graham then Helen Harper and died 13 Sep 1892 in Dumfries. he had several children one of whom - John Coupland lived in Co Durham and died there in about 1925.
But it is Fanny who gives us a much longer lineage:-
She was the daughter of John McKinnell 1792-1879 and Janet Wilson 1791-1862.
John born Borgue, KBT and died Castle Douglas.
Janet born Colvend, KBT and also died Castle Douglas 10 Jan 1862.
Janet Wilson was the daughter of Thomas Wilson and Lucy Lindsay.
Lucy Lindsay was the daughter of William Lindsay 1707-1762 Corsock, Colvend, KBT and Helen Blair 1718-1781 Corsock.
The Lindsays and the Milligan's were an important Galloway family. For a good early history Google "The Regard Biien #18".
If you seek even more information please contact me.

Kirkcudbrightshire / Re: "Keltoune-Mylne" Is this Gelton??
« on: Monday 19 November 12 14:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Kelton Mill still exists!
It is just a few hundred yards north east of the community of Rhonehouse/Kelton Hill near Castle Douglas.
Ordnance Survey grid ref is NX746603.
On Google earth  follow the road north eastwards from the centre of Rhonehouse and take the first left fork after leaving the village. Kelton Mill is an old white building on the right beside a small bridge.
It was the mill for the large estate of Keltonhill. The current farm buildings are just upstream from the mill.
Much of the land is now part of National Trust's Threave Estate.
Hope this helps.

Does anyone have access to the baptismal records of the Free Church of Scotland between the Disruption and the start of the General Records of Scotland in 1855.
I am particularly interested in the children of John McArthur/MacArthur and Mary Macdonald who were living at Tapull, Isle of Mull in 1851. They have children born at Ardmeanach but I would like the dates if possible.

Hi

I am researching the family of John Young and Elizabeth Curry from Greenknowe, Gordon.
My interest stems from the fact that I am a direct descendant of their youngest son Robert Thomson Young 1837-1922.
I would welcome any information that you might hold on the Youngs/Currys.
