Hi Sylvia,

Yes thanks Sylvia I have all the info on Wintiferoid, or Winter royd and also that in the final deeds that it was to be kept in trust for an Enoch Cockroft.
Not sure if he is in  my decendency as my lot moved back into Illingworth. I am just trying to locate the exact house/farm or area.
thanks again,
Sandra

Yorkshire (West Riding) / where is it?
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 08:58 GMT (UK)  »
I am requesting that someone might be able to help regarding a place where my gx parents lived back in the 17th century.
I know from deeds it was called 'wintiferoid' and then became Winter royd. From what I have deduced from other deeds, it is actually in Pinnel and was originally part of Hill House in Wadsworth. I know that there is a Pinnel Lock on the canal in Todmorden but can't seem to find anything on any map. I also know it was or is near Foster Clough.
Many thanks,
Sandra

The Lighter Side / Re: Ancestors who were genealogists ?
« on: Wednesday 05 January 11 04:03 GMT (UK)  »
Back in the 1960's, I began conversing with a branch of my family of North whose mother went to South Africa back in the 1800s. She had no children so decided to pass on to me the decendency back some 100 years. That was the start of being bitten by the bug. From there I found that going back some further 200 years a Benjamin North was a genealogist in a distant part of the family.
Also on my Cockroft side my grandmother in Halifax had sold a book previously for quite a substantial sum of money which had all the history and genealogies going way back.
My own children not interested but my brother who will carry the name on has a son who is. Have kept full records now on both sides back to 1600s with the help of genealogist friend of mine.

Hi,
The design is far more elaborate on the school than on the houses.

Hi there,
This kind of detailing is on most of an estate in Wales near Treharris, Mid Glamorgan. The name of the estate is Cilhaul. Haven't seen this anywhere else though.
