Completed Huntingdonshire Look ups / Re: Ramsey Parish records - DAVID EDGLEY
« on: Tuesday 15 April 08 10:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have your David Edgley in my tree and his parents were Thomas Edgley c1766 and Sarah Jolley who were married in Ramsey.  He was baptised on 1 March 1812 at the same time as his twin sister Charlotte.  Worked as a Royal Marine for 22 years which is probably why he is not on the census.  Married Martha Wright from Woolwich, Kent who's parents were Charles and Martha, Ruth

Hi Joanna,

I've looked through the baptisms and from 1819 to 1812 there is only the one Eliza Seaton.
24 May 1812  Eliza Seaton daug of Francis and Sarah, privately.

The only marriage that I can find between a Francis and a Sarah in Huntingdonshire is in 1783 at Huntingdon AS & St J (All Saints and St James?)  Ruth

Hi Joanna,

There are no marriages for Seaton between the years 1798 and 1823 inclusive, at Stilton, Ruth

There are baptisms between that period tho and it might be that the marriage was earlier?

Hi Stovepipe,

I've looked through the baptisms for an Elizabeth in Stilton.  There is
Eliza Jessop 15 April  daug of Thomas and Mary
Eliza Waights (Weights-BT)  13 May  daug of William and Sarah
Elizabeth Ashby  4 Nov daug of William and Susanna
Eliza Mitchel 3 Dec daug of Wm and Ann
All of the above were in 1810.  No Elizabeths for 1811, Ruth

Hi Charlotte,

You could be right.  Instrell is an unusual name.  Joseph is as far back as I have reached so far so I can't say for sure, Ruth

I've checked the Stilton parish records and the only burials in the 1800's for Glover are the 3 that I have already given.  With regards marriages there is one in 1797 and then a big jump to 1927.  The last christening is the one already given for Henry in 1816.  Ruth

There is a Mary Merrill buried on 11 March 1856, age 73, so it doesn't look like she ever married.  Ruth

Hi Amanda and David,

Re the baptism entry for Henry Glover.  As you say it's not clear as to whether Henry was illigitimate or not.  It doesn't state on the microfiche that he is illigitimate but then it is odd to state the mothers maiden name.  Plus there is also the fact that there are no other births around the same period.  I guess if his parents weren't married at the time it was easier to pop across to another country and baptise the child there.  It could be that the vicar of the church was a bit more understanding about these matters than the norm and didn't label the children as bastards as some were quick to do.  Ruth
