Hi
I have a tree which has an Eld family from Sheepy Magna Leicestershire.
I have an ELD as a high DNA match, also Newbolds, it seems though that my main candidate for my grandfather could be a John Thomas STANIFORTH b1899 Belton Leicestershire (Never Married)

I see no matches to my direct line Newbolds however thought I would just check where they lived.

Bearing in mind my direct line is a female Newbold b in 1796 Exton Rutland and I know they were in Exton for at least 100yrs prior, families at that time had many children, so your line is potentially/ possibly one of the male Newbold siblings which I have not researched fully.
Her parents  were John/Elizabeth ( Walker) Newbold who had 4 sons, only one lived ( George) to go onto having children, he had 2 sons, Eli and George, Eli had one son and George 7 sons from mid 1850, some of them/their families moved to Lincolnshire or Leicestershire..... there are several Charles in my line and one Frank.
Charles and family including one son Frank in the 1911 were in Queniborough Leicestershire.

So, mainly Lincolnshire/Rutland border towns/villages and some moved to the Rutland/Leicester border, so places like Wymondham and Queninborough Leicestershire and those lines had moved from Exton  and Cottesmore Rutland and many of those later desendants who I have researched went onto migrate to places like Canada and the US.

The two Newsold brothers I am researching are the sons of Joseph Newbold b1869 in Leicestershire and Mary Skinns b1864 in Lincolnshire...
Frank Newbold b1894 & Charles Thomas Newbold b 1869
I believe my grandmother could have been in Leicestershire around the same time as these brothers would have been there?

Charles Newbold seems only to have had one son, Charles, born in 1924.

I can see five children for Frank, but they were all girls. Violet, his wife, nee Dixon, had one child by a previous marriage, but also a girl in 1914.

David

I have those two as possible candidates for being my grandfather, as for Frank he had no male children but unless someone does a DNA test I won’t have the information that will help

A possibly stupid question, sorry.  I'm making the assumption that your parents were born and married in England or Wales.  If so then it should be fairly simple to trace their parents.  I'm not that conversant with Australian records, but the few marriage certificates I do possess show both sets of parents.

I moved to Australia around 30 years ago and have no Australian ancestors My parents were born and married in Formby, Lancashire, England around b1921/22 mar 1943
My fathers birth certificate has no father shown, his marriage certificate shows the name Cufflin, the man my grandmother eventually married in 1924 Leicester is not my genetic father so I am researching DNA matches to find males who would have been in the same area as my grandmother around 1920 either Lancashire or Leicestershire.
My 2 largest DNA matches have the surnames NEWBOLD & ELD
Thanks for your input

There is a Matthew Eld living in Leicester in Leicester but we can't give details of living people.

It should be possible to find out his ancestry through the usual BMD records etc.

I managed to get back quite quickly and I think I found his ancestor, Cyril, born in 1904.

However, he was born before his parents married but, given his middle name, his father was Charles Eld.
KIRKLAND, CYRIL  ELA (ELD?) - no mother's maiden name
GRO Reference: 1904  S Quarter in LEICESTER  Volume 07A  Page 192

There are some trees, including photographs - e.g. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/19446202/person/803426364/facts

Thank you David, I’ll check this out, I did a google search for Matthew ELD, Leicester as that was only information available on the ancestry DNA match, I think the main results were for a policeman in Leicester (I reckon this could be him but he hasn’t a tree)
I am trying to match up who would have been in the same place and same timeframe as my grandmother in 1920 she was born in Formby, Lancashire in 1900 my grandmother eventually married in Leicester in 1924 but the man she married is not the genetic parent of my father b1921 in Formby and had no father shown on his birth certificate, I have 2 possible males from the Newbold line whose line started around Shepshed Leicester early 1800’s but this ELD is a new high DNA match

Thank you, I am hoping someone has done a DNA test which could confirm which of the two brothers was my grandfather?

Thank you, I have produced a Quick and Dirty tree for DNA purposes, starting with Franks and Stanley as you have stated and am interested in the family that stayed in the uk and settled in Lincolnshire
I suppose I am just waiting for someone to take a DNA test?

Sorry, don’t know exactly where in Leicester  but he has a high Y-DNA match with me on ancestry but no tree
I think it may have been a gift of a DNA kit for his ethnicity results
He has not signed into AncestryDNA for quite a while his name is Matthew ELD, Leicester
