The children Bessie and Charles Holt are related to me.

Esther Bourne's daughter was called Bessie Bourne.  She married my ggrandad, George Hoult, who was in the Army, but settled in Hinckley.

They had three children - George Amos 1911, Bessie Marie 1913, and Alfred Edwin 1916.  Their mother, Bessie died in 1916 in childbirth with Alfred Edwin, who also died.  I've never heard of a Charles, so I don't know where he fits in.

George snr didn't remarry until 1925, so in 1921, George and Bessie would have been motherless, and perhaps their father was away with the Army - therefore they were temporarily sent to stay with their Grandmother Esther in Sussex.

As for Stanley Bourne - I feel sure he will connect to Job in some way - Job was part of a large farming family in Chiddingly (Father was Walter Bourne of Beard's Farm in Hellingly - I will have to try to trace the family I have here forward to tie in the names - however, some of the names are in the family - Job had a sister called Ruth, and his wife was called Annie before she died - Joseph is also a family name - If I turn up anything here I'll get back to you.

Many thanks for your help - does any of this family tie in with your own? I'd be happy to send you more stuff if you think it would help

This is really interesting - I will have to check my dates and come back to you re; bessie and charles, but they are more than likely related - Esther Bourne had a daughter, Bessie Bourne, who married my Great Grandad, George Hoult.  I don't recall anyone called charles, but as I said, I'll check in a bit....got to do the school run in a minute, so I'm speed typing!

I've got the birth certificate, and  can trace the family back quite a way.  I'm now looking to see if this person had any children.  I've looked through 1837online, and think I have found two sons - Richard and Robert from Newark, with an Elsie Osborne

I wondered if the local paper had covered an obituary for the death, then other family members might be listed as mourners

just a thought - would the local paper have covered the funeral?  If so, how could I view this?  I know he died December 1986 - the paper might give names of mourners etc.

Hi all,

does anyone know of this person - he's a very big brick wall!  >:( He may possibly have been married to an Olive Illston

If it's the same chap, he might also have been married to Elsie I Osborne in Newark and had two children - Richard and Robert

He also had a brother called Roland - father was William, mother was Bertha -

many thanks

Yes, I found them all the way back through the census's.  Beards farm was Job's father's farm - Walter Bourne.  The only details we had of my ggrandmother was that she was called Bessie Bourne and visited her mother and her mother's brother at Cooper's farm.

All I could turn up is that they lived at Beard's farm, until I looked on the historical directories site, and found Job at Cooper's farm.

now I'm interested to find out what they were doing there.
