Hi Daval

I have just seen your post regarding John James Croad b1818 he and Philliss Notley were my great great grandparents. His father was also John James b 1781 at Rodden,Dorset and married Elizabeth (unknown).

The 1841 census shows a James Croad (Yoeman) aged 60 and Elizabeth 55 living at Wyke Regis with 2 children Eliza 20 and James 15. I think this could be John James as his father John  90 is also living there and too many Johns could have been confusing.

Hi Barry

Thanks for your contact, although I do have some of the information, other details have been very useful. I guess we are distant cousins. I am also in touch with another distant cousin from one of Anne's brother's line. I would be happy to receive details of your line starting with Anne's brother to add to my tree.

If there is anything that I can help you with please let me know.

Thanks again

best regards
Christine

Hello Shadrach

Thanks for the extra info, I will look at the images as you suggest. My daughter who has moved to the NE of England tells me she has a friend with the surname Hogston, so maybe twigs from the Lancashire branch in Durham?

Joseph Hogston born about Aug 1831 Dunton, Bucks and named in Bullingdon Petty Sessions 6 Mar 1852 for an order in Bastardy by Ann Burnham born 1834 in Chiselhampton,Oxfordshire.

George Burnham (parents above ) born 9th Dec 1851 St Helens Workhouse, Abingdon,Berks.

(another son Edmund Thomas Burnham was born in the same workhouse 14th Feb 1855) I do not know at this time if Joseph was also the father.

Ann went on to marry John Baldwin in Worminghall in 1856, and then William Herring date unknown. Ann died in 1871.

Joseph married Mary Simonds b about 1832 from Weedon,Bucks in 1855.

In the 1861,1871,1881,1891 they are living at Whitchurch. (Mount Pleasant in 1881).

Children all born in Whitchurch.

James Simonds Hogston b.about 1858
Ruth Hogston b.about 1860
William Hogston b.about 1864
Jane Hogston b.about 1865
George Hogston b. about 1867
Mary Anne Hogston b. about 1869
Emily Ruth Hogston b. about 1870
Annie Hogston b.about 1874

In 1901 census Joseph and Mary have two grandaughters with them Florrie and Winifred M Duckingham.

That is as far as I have got with Joseph at the moment. If you want any information on the Burnhams please let me know.

best regards
Christine

Hello again

Many thanks for all your information, which has helped me take a large leap back after 6 months fruitless searching. Apart from where Joseph was when my g x 2 grandfather was born (and possibly his brother Edmund) I have some  details on Joseph, his marriage and family after that time.

Please let me know if you don't have them, and would like them for your tree.

Thanks again

best regards
Christine

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and, sorry for the delay in responding. Yes, Joseph's parents are William and Mary so it looks like we are researching the same family. I am about 90% certain Joseph is my great great grandfather although he did not marry my grandmother Anne Burnham. Therefore my great grandfather George was named Burnham rather than Hogston. The name in Dunton does seem to have changed several times through the 17 and 1800's, showing also as Hoggeston and Hoxson making the family hard to trace back.

I would be pleased for any information you may have.

regards
Christine
