Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / John Thang of Needingworth/Bluntisham/Colne
« on: Friday 13 September 19 08:14 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any family history of John Thang who died in 1819 and buried in Bluntisham. He may have been living in Needingworth at the time. He married Eliza (Elizabeth) Asplan/Asplin. We are trying to trace any descendants as John and Elizabeth’s gravestones need to be relocated.

Huntingdonshire / Woodhurst Baptist Chapel gravestones
« on: Sunday 24 February 19 08:49 GMT (UK)  »
A friend who lives in a house on the site of the old chapel has found the old gravestones (one of which was a wooden grave marker) piled in the corner of her garden. Does anyone have any ideas how she could find out more about them or contact the original families?

Just possible that they may have been associated with the Baptist church in Bluntisham in which case there will be no record of a baptism as children are dedicated instead. These records haven't been kept and it wouldn't have been until adulthood that a baptism would have taken place.

I have checked the churchyard and found the gravestones, they are in a poor condition I'm afraid and hard to read - I will try and take a photo when they aren't in the direct sunshine and send to you. The attached shows the headstone for Gifford.

Colne church tower collapsed in 1896 and the church was rebuilt in a new location at the centre of the village about 6 years later. I guess some of the records may have been lost.
