Shetland / Rev. William Telfer
« on: Friday 26 April 19 16:56 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone information about the Rev. William Telfer he died 4 May 1884 at Sellafirth, North Yell.
His death cert. does not give his parents but they were John Telfer and Mary Mair.   William was born 5 Aug 1795 at Wheathaugh, Castleton. Liddesdale.   He was the oldest brother of my gt.gt. grandfather.
By becoming a Ch. of Scotland minister and going to Shetland he could not have moved further from his family in the Borders.

I have been to the Churchyard at Eckford.    The gravestone is gradually being covered by lichen but is still legible and does read 'also Walter George and William who died in infancy' despite Walter George living long enough to be sadly killed in WW1.
