A bit more infomation I have Children of Francis Sheahan and Mary Mullowney - In the Ballymodon, Kilbrogan Desertges,Bandon, County Cork all from the www.churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie website

Mary Sheahan Baptism 4 Nov 1814
Honor Sheahan 5 Feb 1817
Michael Sheahan 1 Oct 1818 (note spelling of father is transcription error as Meehan and mother is Mary Moloney)
John Sheehan 10 Oct 1822 (note spelling of Sheehan and Mary Mahoney transcription error)

The only records I have are for my great great grandmother Johanna Sheehan.  I cant find her birth. Johanna was born abt 1828. Came to Australia about 1853/4. Her marriage to Thomas J Hewitt in 1855 in Ballarat, Victoria state that she is from Bandon, Cork and her parents are Francis Sheehan and Mary Moloney.  As she could neither read or write the spelling of her parents names may have been misspelt. The above baptism are the only ones I can guess are as close to those names as I can get.

There are only two ships that may have her on. One being the "Colombia" arriving australia 20 Sep 1854, but this has Johanna Sheehan as being from Charleville, County Cork.

Any clues, anyone.
Cheers

Derry (Londonderry) / John Black & Mary Flannigan
« on: Friday 04 January 13 10:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, does anyone from this post know of

Hi there, I have been looking at posts about the Black Family, I see that you have helped a few people. The Black family I am researching are as follows

John Black m Mary Flannigan about 1850 (assuming Derry)
Son John Joseph Black b 1855 Coleraine, Derry immigrated to Australia (dates??)
Son William Joseph Black  b 1857/8 Londonderry immigrated to Australia also probably about late 1870's -early 1880's,

I have seen an entry for a William Black with John Black as Depositor fro 13 June 1860 in the NSW, Australia, Immigration Deposit Journals - still looking up what this means.

John Joseph Black m Hannah Noonan (from Cork) in Victoria Australia
William Joseph Black m Mary Noonan (also from Cork, sister of Hannah) in Victoria Australia, 15 April, 1882.

Both Brothers settled in Brunswick, Melbourne, Victoria and had children there.

any help or links would be appreciated.

this is more likely the one. which makes me wonder are there 2 James and Elizabeth Barkers, where this Nathaniel comes in, as there are twins in the family line of Nathaniel, but none in my line, there  is also an Isaac Barker born abt 1813 who married a Merriam, that was thought to be a brother of Nathaniel..  All very confusing as my there is an Isaac Barker also a bricklayer involved here.

I will post when more info is sorted; thanks

I have 2 WW1 cerificates that I would like to get more information on.  My Father William Barker (mosley) b 1931  d 1998 had these certificates in australia,he grew up in Sawbridgeworrth, but the family was from Hatfield Broad oak area.

I have searched the National Archives on  a number of occassions but I am still unsure where to look, would someone from Hatfield Heath be in the Essex Regiment and there are many Barkers.

I have looked at some UK war archives but haven't really come up with a place to search for the origin of them.  I would like to know where I should search for the origin of them in the Sheering, Hatfield Broad Oak areas, so that I can ascertain the correct WWI records to look at. They may lead to exact Regiment numbers to look at, as there are so many Barkers on the National Archives. The Cerificates are for Harold Barker b13 Feb 1898 Hatfield Broad Oak, and William Barker 1 Oct 1872, his father born in Hatfield Broad Oak.

I tried to attach the images of these certificates but nothing happened,  ???maybe due to me using google chrome, but the details are the prints were done in The National Society's Depository, 12 Princess Street Hanover Square. Harold Barker is No 294. It reads Welcome home to Sheering from the Great War. With some other words and very ornate.

I have done a search for the National Society Depository, but am none the wiser.  Any help??

Census 1841 for James Barker and Elizabeth in Hatfield Broad Oak, ELizabeth aged 49, which would give her birth about 1792, other census 1861 aged 67 which would give birth abt 1794.  Could there be another Elizabeth in the family or is it best to give leeway in census information??  Is this the right place to post this question?

Kevin, you are a legend.

I had a birth year of 1792 for Elizabeth nee Bird , which means it was wrong if Elizabeth is the twins born in 1781, thank you.

So it seems that I have found another living relative in the UK, he was certain that Nathaniel was of the same family but I have had no record of him from other living family members, but Nathaniel Barker and Edward Barker b 1822 are living next door to one another in 1861 and 1871 census, and they are brick layers!.

I have information for the family children of Edward Barker Born 18 Feb 1822  who married Rebecca Allen from a birthday book that is with relatives in Essex, but they are only direct lines, with many gaps. They will be happy to have these additions.  I am happy to share anything that I can.

It just makes me want to go over to Essex and look at the old hand written records... one day ......

thank you soo much for a quick reply, you have certainly made my day. There were plenty of Bird's around the area, so i think you've got it.   I am soo happy to have the parents being Joseph and Frances as this really verifies other family members.  I dont suppose there is also a birth for the Joseph Barker who married Frances Porter.... gotta roll with it..

I will have to nut out the twins, are the twins to Joseph Barker and Ann Bird?

Would you have parents to Nathaniel Barker Born about 1816 in Hatfield Heath, he married Susan Archer I recently had contact from another Barker and I am pretty sure that Nathaniel is not one of James and Elizabeths sons.  Thank you
