WOW thanks for all you're replies. Amazing what you can find. Love to try and find his death certificate. Anyone know of an Australian site I could do some digging, or even try and find any more about his military movements - enlistings, discipline's etc...

Yeah Valerie had listed the birth of Mary Anne earlier...that's where I saw the "Fitzgerald" surname for Ellen...She also was Fitzgibbons on Alfred's birth, but used Smith for reg. of James birth  ( you know...on May 0  ;D ) so she must have been married before?

aemberson...welcome to rootschat. So are you saying you want information from BEFORE they came to Canada then? Not totally clear, there, as "other info or stuff" is rather vague as to what is known and what isn't.  J.J.

Apologies. What I meant to say I was trying to find a bit more about the canadian side of the family. Are their Embersons in Canada still etc..

Thanks for all you're replies

Australia / James Michael EMBERSON

My great grandfather moved to Australia sometime just before the 1st World War to get work and then was supposed to send for the his children, but never did!!

He was born in 1881 in Addington, London, lived in Kensington from the age of 10, married Elizabeth Jane Godfrey in 1901.

He had four children which I don't know anything about, but my grandfather James Emberson born 1913 was the 5th, but he had moved to Australia by then. So i expect he moved around 1911-12
The first bit of information I have of him from Australia was from his military record. It was his enlisting to C Coy  2 Depot. BN Sept 6th 1915.

This I think is his file as the next of kin matches my great nan.

After the last entry in this file he seems to have vanished. I can't find any other information about him at all, or a death certificate and my granddad heard nothing from him at all really. They say the last they heard he was on Kangaroo Island, but this could be false as he obviously wasn't going to come back for his children so probably didn't want to be found. Any information would be great.

I'm the "friend"
From what I've got on ancestry

Parents James Emberson 1826-1885 and Sarah Lousia Cornwall 1823-1890
Married Ellen Smith  not sure of date

So he does match a couple of your posts. Hopefully this might lead to family I have in Canada now.

Any other info or stuff would be great.
