Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: FROST, Ann, b.1841 in White Ball

Yes, I'm beginning to fear something like that might have happened. Especially if they were only in White Ball briefly. But presumably (hopefully) there would still be parish records  ???

Somerset Lookup Requests / FROST, Ann, b.1841 in White Ball
« on: Wednesday 24 August 11 18:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Could anybody help with locating details on Ann Frost who, on several census records, gives her birth place as White Ball, Devonshire in around 1841 (although I believe White Ball comes under Wellington district, Somerset?).

Her father was a John Frost we think, and they were a Sheffield family, possibly down in White Ball to help with the White Ball Tunnel, although that is speculation really.

I am really struggling to find any info on her birth, and I can't find her in the 1851 census either in Devon/Somerset or Sheffield. She does however pop up in 1871/81/91 right up to 1911!

I know she is the correct Ann Frost throughout as she lists her birthplace as White Ball, and in 1901 they are lodging with my grt-grandfather, Herbert Leaning.

What I need help with is a birth record for Ann Frost from White Ball (Wellington?) which I can not find through my ancestry.com subscription, feeeBMD or anywhere else.

Any help very greatfully received!

Thank you.

Hi,

John & Mary and Sarah and Richard are certainly Leaning names in my tree. Some of the other names you are researching look familiar too, especially Naylor.

I am in work at the moment and wont be home to check details until Friday, but I will send you all the info I have then. Almost certainly there is a link....

Thanks for getting in touch Bee.

My Ellis line all originate from Lincolnshire, but as far as I know, apart from my father going to Barton on Humber school when he was young, the Ellis's have nothing to do with Barton.

They were all from the Grimsby, Ulceby and Scunthorpe areas.

If I do dig up a William Ellis from Barton in my faily though, I will definitely be in touch !

Thanks again,

Jonathan

Wow - thanks! That really helps, and I now have a further two siblings of William Leaning, my g-g-grand father.

I guess all the Leanings in Barton were related in some way - now I just have to piece them all together!

Thank you very much once again Sue.

Jonathan.

Dave, you're a star ! That's just what I wanted to see. This will enable me to go back much further now.

Anything you need help with in Gloucestershire,  or I have the Devon 1851 Census, just let me know.

Thanks once again for your speedy help,

Jonathan.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1851/61 - John LEANING - Barton On Humber
« on: Wednesday 22 September 04 15:42 BST (UK)  »
Would SKS please look up John Leaning, living in Barton On Humber in 1851/61 and employed as a butcher, living possibly at Whitecross Street.

His son may be with him, William Leaning.

I would love to find out his wifes name and any other children.

Thanks in advance

Jonathan Ellis
