Hi Shellback,

Thanks for the very interesting info on people living in Maudlintown in the early 20s.

Do you, or anyone who reads this, know anything about Ellen Josephine Byrne who was born on March 6, 1919 in Maudlintown? Her parents were John Byrne, a labourer, and Mary Byrne, formerly Murphy.

Also present at the birth was Kate Walsh, who also lived in Maudlintown.

I'd be grateful for any information about them all,

John Byrne and Mary Byrne formerly Murphy were my grand parents.  Their son Raymond was my Father.  Kate Walsh (she lived to be almost 100) was my great aunt, Mary's sister.  Both of my grand parents died in 1923.  If you want more information please email me    jack.jackband@gmail.com

Can anyone tell me if the house numbers in Fishers Row changed over the years as they did in other parts of the town.  My dad lived in I think the second house on right as you came up from William Street.  In 1911 census it was number 40 but I think the address I knew it as on trips there in 40s and 50s was 10 or 12.  Rattler Fortune lived next door.  Anne

I was born in No. 30 Fishers Row in 1950.  I remember most of the people who lived there before a lot of the families moved to Bernadette Place in 1958.  Jim and Nancy Fortune, Pat and Sally Byrne, O'Grady's French's, Stephen and Bridie Martin.  Then a fence/wall/ditch.  O’Briens, then our house No. 30.  I remember an old man name of Peter Kehoe next to us. So we were number 30 and we were about half way up on the right hand side as you looked up from William Street.
