Hi I have now obtained marriage certificate George Gilberts Father is a John Gilbert occupation a stocking maker on Georges Army papers 9th October 1915 he states he is 46 years 59 days old making him born 11th August 1869 Leicester registry office have no birth for him on or near that date  free Bmd there is a George Arthur Gilbert born July Qtr this is the only information I have been able to find could someone  see if they can find him with his father on 1871 or 81 census please I'm really smack into a brick wall Thank you Margaret

I have gone from stuck in a rut to over the moon just since posting message I had fleetingly looked at George with Ann when I had done a block search for him but hadn't tried to put together
my mind for some reason was focused on finding marriage I thought that was the easiest and safest route to take leaving no guess work
All the help I have received has been brilliant and spot on
once I have gone through the army records lead I will check out Ann
 I've always known people doing family history will  lend a hand where ever they can tonight has more than confirmed it

This is definitely him thank you  I now have the place of marriage St Marks
now just need to check see if there are any records for St Marks on line

Hi has anyone got access to marriage records that could help me with Marriage for George Gilbert and Mary Ann Russell 1887 Leicester Im trying to find his parents
on Census records after his marriage to Mary Ann Russell  he is shown as a house Painter born 1868 Leicester on previous censuses to 1891 there are several possibilities  not knowing  his parents names I've tried to narrow it down  I have done this by finding his wife before their marriage  Mary Ann Russell in 1881 St Margarets Leicester there is also a George Gilbert matching his details in St Margaret 1881 parents William and Jane I'm hoping George Gilbert married at St Margarets  free BMD show first Quarter 1887 any help is greatly appreciated Regards Margaret

I know it's possible but like you I would never just assume the George in 1881 went on to be a house painter so need proof of parentage before I can proceed  the marriage certificate as you say is the only answer unfortunately I am researching tree for a friend who really hasn't got the money for buying certificates I have already purchased certificates for her to get back to 1881 and feel as much as I would like to carry on helping her it's becoming expensive for me so was hoping someone might have the disc's for St Margarets and be able to check for me
