My second cousin once removed did the family line back to Robert Sparks and Margaret Muir/Mare/Mair way before the details were on line.  So they did a lot of leg work. James and Margaret  probably both worked in Edinburgh at the time.  I presumed that he was from Fife like her.  I am quite happy with Robert being from Dalkeith.  I'll go along with that.  I think it's a safe bet, and well my Dad was born in Dalkeith, sentimentality creeping in. Typical female.  I went to Dalkeith High.  So it's like a circle.

Many thanks to all of your cooperation on this, as most of them were from Fife, I assumed that the "Robert Spark" would be from Fife.  Mea culpa.  I think I will lie low on this lot for a while.  Once again thank you for your invaluable help.

Regards to all

Thank you for the reply regarding the Parishes of Edinburgh.  I thought it referred to St. Andrews in Fife.  Now that answers a lot and why I couldn't find the man in Fife.  Thank you.  I can now close the door on this.  A sigh of relief.  So my mother is a direct descendant of the said James Spark back to Dalkeith and of the same family.  Cool.

Regards

Hi ColC

Yes, that's the one... Do you think it's possible?  See a small part of the marriage register.  Does it refer to St. Andrew's district in Edinburgh and the new North Kirk.  Quite frankly I am lost at to whether it's Edinburgh or St. Andrews in Fife.

Sorry for all the duplication, but Colin C. confirmed most of my research in my direct line.

OK back to the drawing board.

Now I would be very grateful if anyone could help with the Brick wall.

My brickwall is James Spark married to Margaret Ireland.  I have attached a marriage register for this couple.  The problem is James Spark... I have Margaret's parents located, but James's parents must be written in invisible ink, indeed could well be he wasn't even baptised or the register was never added.  I don't want to go back any further, as the OPR registers are a lot of guesswork.  I just want a new line of information.  I have done everything I can to achieve the information, but it's difficult doing it from Spain I can only use on line options, Familysearch, FreeReg, FreeCen, Scotlandspeople.  I have managed to obtain copies of original registers from Ancestry, that is where this one I have attached came from.

Sorry to be such a repetitive pest, I really am.  Many thanks for your help.

Hi All

I am trying to get past my brick wall regarding the Spark family.  I have gotten as far back as James Sparks who married Margaret Ireland.  On the marriage register father of the bride was Alexander Ireland.  This couple were married in Edinburgh, Edinburgh Parish.  During my research I may have unwittingly gotten a bit off route, and I wonder if any of you could kindly give me a hand in confirming or correcting anything that I may have gotten wrong.

A second cousin did go as far back to Robert Spark in Dalkeith, Midlothian.  Now that would be an enormous coincidence, as my father was born in Dalkeith two and half centuries later John Herkes m Margaret Spark my mother was from Port Glasgow,  in Dalkeith 18 July 1945.  I am a bit cautious about naming the "Robert Spark" from Dalkeith "the possible" father of James Spark who married Margaret Ireland.  Smells a bit off, but  anything is possible.  Some of my ancestors seem to have married twice.  I suppose being left a widower with a brood of children, was a viable option, thus producing more offspring.

Could someone please confirm the attached screenshot regarding the wives of these three James Sparks. Were there in fact any others please?
