I have found Ronald Harry Mitchell on 'British Army & Navy Birth, Marriage & Death Records 1914-1921, 1939-47. The headings on the top of the page are number 1-11 and no.9 is 'Cause of Death' and in that column is number '2'. Please can anyone tell me what '2' refers to?

Thank you all so much for your help, I have found the two children and will contact them.  It will be good to fill them in on their family history (if they don't already know) and hopefully we may get a photo of Ronald to put on our website eltisleyhistorysociety.org.uk with his details in our 'Fallen heroes' section. Once again, many, many, thanks.

We have had the Roll of Honour which hangs in our church renovated and are hoping to have a service of re dedication in November so I would like to try to find any surviving relatives of Reginald.  I have been trying to find a marriage for Reginald J. but without success.  The nearest I found was a marriage to a Eileen M Hockings in 1946 but having checked with her family it is not the right person. Is there anywhere else I can look apart from Ancestry?

I think I must have been looking for these names with my eyes shut!  I have now found both birth records and as you say the mother's name is the same, so thank you all very much for your help. The other information I read on Ancestry was obviously wrong - that will teach me to do my own research in future. Thank you again.

Thank you for all your information but I'm still not 100% sure that Reginald was the son of Walter & Beatrice? On the 1939 census his birth date was given as 4/10/1913. Information on Ancestry claims that Ronald was their only son? We think that Ronald Harry Mitchell was born on 31/12/1919

Since posting this yesterday I have found a Pte Reginald Mitchell 5779614 5th Btn. Royal Norfolk Reg who was captured by the Japanese on 15/02/1942 and died  in the sinking of the Hell Ship 'Toyufuku Maru' on 21/09/1944, age 31. He comes from Northampton. I can't find any record of his parents so at the moment am unable to confirm that it is the Reginald Mitchell I am looking for. The search continues.

Eltisley History Society are trying to find the service record of Leading Seaman Ronald Harry Mitchell, who is commemorated on our village Roll of Honour. He was born on 31/12/1919 and was killed when the 'Abel Tasman' was sunk by a mine on 13/6/1940. His parents were Walter and Beatrice Mary. Is it possible to find out when he enlisted and any more details about his naval service? Thank you in advance for any help.
