Dublin / Re: Broe/Brough of Rathfarnham Dublin

Hi All
After some years I still haven't found the baptism of Thomas Broe 1823/4 but can clear up the misunderstanding on his death certificate because I found the marriage of John Broe and his wife Elizabeth Keogh in Rathfarnham. The name is mis-transcribed. The surname Brown is from Elizabeth Keogh's mother whose surname was Brown. I expect that the person who gave the information on the death certificate was mistaken. On Thomas' brother Patrick's death certificate the surname is correct but the Christian name is wrong which led some people to assume that they were half-brothers. His baptism is also in the Rathfarnham PR in 1825 and he was not a twin to Thomas. In all there were several other children for this children in the PRs.

Devon / Re: Philip Cork(e) of Uffculme, Devon

Hello
Just read this message. John Cork married Jane Dunn of Uffculme and they had no children as they married in 1765 and John died in 1780. Jane had died in Uffculme in 1765 and she had left everything to her daughter Rebecca born long before her marriage (out of wedlock) but Rebecca died aged only 24. The Henry Dunn mentioned in John's Will was the son of Jane's brother John. They are my husband's family as he is descended from another sister Mary.

That is definitely him. Thanks so much. Margaret had died before 1860 as James was then in Plymouth. Is there a record of her death in St Helier please. There is no record of any children as my grandmother was born from the second marriage in Plymouth.

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Marriage in Jersey

I am trying to find out about the marriage of my greatgrandfather James Thomas Martin. In the 1851 census James is working in St Helier and living in Dale Cottage, St Saviours Rd. He was a tailor and married to a lady called Margaret who was Jersey born. They were both 27, born in 1824 or so. James was born in Menheniot Cornwall and I have found him in 1841 aged 15 (rounded down) as a tailor's apprentice and in 1851 when he was a widower and in the RN in Plymouth as a ship's tailor. There seems to be no record of a marriage in England for James and Margaret so I am supposing that they married in St Helier possibly between about 1847 and 1851. There were no children in 1851. Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Vivien

Yes my mother was a Brough and her great grandfather Thomas Brough was bon in Dublin in 1824, joined the army in 1842 and was sent out to the colonies as part of the convict guard in 1846. He settled in NZ after his time was up with his wife and children

Can anyone tell me why an ancestor in the 1891 census would have born Peru Foreign Subject beside his place of birth. Was there any mining etc going on there like there was in Argentina etc in the 1860s. His name was Armstrong and possibly his father was Scottish as he had the middle name Carrin which I have found in Scotland as a surname
