yes I've seen that..............but I can't relate those parents to my Amos Woods b. 1725/6 in Redenhall yet. I accept Amos' father was a 'John', but there is no indication of Elizabeth Sherrington's place of birth, or reliable records of Woods births thereabouts to corroborate same.

I have the 3 pages of the batchelder pedigree we're talking about mark. I have studied same ad finitum recently and still scratching my head over forming the correct family connections. I think your summary is about right, but email me and I'll send you the pages and my thinking. Perhaps you can make more sense of it and thus help me, make more sense of it.

hi is anyone able to help with look-up for WOODS baptisms in Westleton Suffolk please 1650-1750. I'm trying to prove a potential link with my family which seem rooted around the Waveney Valley of Norfolk and Suffolk. I'm missing the marriage of John Woods and Elizabeth ?, who possibly married around 1720 and were in Redenhall Norfolk for the births of their children including my x5 grandfather Amos Woods 1726-85 of Mendham Suffolk.

I am trying to track the marriages of 7 Matthew Batchelder/Batchelor and various spellings thereof, who were resident around Hardley in Norfolk and part of a gentry family of yeoman farmers that traces its roots in the village back to the 14th.c
So far I have identified 10 Matthew Batchelder marriages with the following ladies and dates and tried to ascertain their linkage. If anyone can delve deep into the annals of any dusty records I've missed, perhaps they can clarify or confirm the connections.

Alice Playford 1656

Katherine Hazell ?
Elizabeth Buck 1695
Hannah Goodwin 1704

Sarah Levie 1721
Elizabeth Butcher 1740
Hannah Rising 1758

Elizabeth Rising 1762

Ann Wright 1786

Amy Bryant 1809

hi thanks for that  - yes I have the batchelder clan in sisland - the only correction I would add to the issue of jonathan and elizabeth is Francis, who was baptized with James on April 24 1785. Therefore the couple had 13 children, but at least half of them died young.

ah that would make more sense now - looking at the Caistor St Edmund marriages, I see Robert Batchelder m Jemima Osborne on March 31 1819. The Jonathan Batchelder who married Maria Barber in Broome on September 20 1819 had a child called 'Osborne'....this must be the same family carrying the female surname forward.

I would summize perhaps that Jonathan and Robert Batchelder were brothers?

Supplementary to my earlier posts, I have now researched my male WOODS line back definitively now to Amos Woods 1726-85 and Catharine Cooper who married by licence in Mendham Suffolk March 14 1771. Catharine already had had 5 children (between 1762-70 probably by Amos) and after 1771 they went on to have 5 more (between 1772-78). Their son Enoch b. 1772 is my x4 great grandfather.

I have the WOODS line fairly well documented in South Norfolk and North Suffolk to date, so if anyone can't find their WOODS for the trees, let me know :)
