Hello everyone.
I also would like to find some information on the above. My father was born 1934 and married my mother in 1958. He was in the army for a short while before the marriage (may have been conscripted). I believe he was in Cyprus and was a guard at the Suez Canal. I don't know if he was in the Kings Own Scottish Borders or the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. I do remember as a child my family was invited to Edinburgh Castle but can't remember what for specifically other than it being something to do with the army. This and the attached photo is the only little bit of information I have. I'm hoping that someone may recognise the uniform and be able to advice me where to start looking myself.
Thanks

I can't make out much at all from the Martin Begg one but can make out more form the Ann Begg one. I've not come across this type of certificate before so will need to take more time to understand them. Do you's think this might be family I'm looking for? I don't think a marriage will be found for John Kirkpatrick and Elizabeth Begg so I suspect I will have to go down the route of births and deaths.

Thanks so much for your time

Hope some one can help I'm stuck with this couple John Kirkpatrick and Elizabeth Begg who are the parents on the marriage certificate of William Kirkpatrick who married Margaret Graham in 1868 at Ardwall, New Abbey. I have found various birth dates and various different places of birth for them and I may have them in the 1841 and 1851 census's in Kirkpatrick-Durham and Kirkbean, they may have had 8 children but I cannot find a marriage certificate or banns for the couple so don't feel I can verify anything. I have tried Scotlands People, Find My Past and Latter Day Saints but had no luck on any sites on their marriage. I have checked and re-checked all my other information leading back to 1968 it all appears correct. For months I have kept coming back to this couple and tried different approaches but to no avail and it's costing a fortune, I'm just about ready to give up.

Any help, hints, tips will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks Dod
Those links really helped and I've checked again and agree that it should have said Tarbolton on the certificate not Yarbolton.
Many thanks

Thanks for the reply's, but I'm no further forward.
On the certificate in the column where it say's at the top of the page "When, Where, and How Married", it mentions a couple of names and "Police Constable residing", as in perhaps - present.
Then in the 'witness' column it say's "Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Ayrshire".
I assume by this that it was an 'Irregular Marriage'. I just wanted clarification on what this would mean?

Thanks

Ayrshire / Marriages 1923
« on: Friday 10 July 15 00:21 BST (UK)  »
hello
When researching my family tree I came across this in  'When, Where and How Married'.  "At 11 High Street, Ayr"  and  "Police Constable residing at Constabulary Station, Mossblown, Yarbolton", and in 'If an Irregular Marriage, date of decree of Declaration, or of Sheriff's Warrant'.  It say's  "Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Ayrshire", and the date, registrar Edward Pow.  I wondered if anyone could help me understand what this means as 'Usual Residence' for the male is Dunskey, Portpatrick and for the female is Palmallet, Whithorn.
Thanks
p.s. It clearly say's Yarbolton on the certificate but seems to also refer to Tarbolton in some way?

Hello Bev
Thanks for taking the time to reply. My relatives (Kirkpatrick) seem to be more around the Terregles , Kirkgunzeon, Logan and West Cost area's of Scotland. I've got as far back as early 1800s but had to leave it there for a bit just been to busy. Hope to get back to it soon though it's a great hobby full of twists and turns.

Thanks again for your time and good luck with your searches.
