Ross & Cromarty / Re: Contin or Collinston
« on: Sunday 14 February 21 17:14 GMT (UK)  »
@Forfarian... Unfortunately I am not entirely sure when and where Donald MacLean and Ann Matheson married. I have found a 1846 parish record in Killearnan which might be them. Not been able to establish any children for them. It is thought that Donald maybe the father or brother of John McLean who married Mary McKenzie in 1821 Urray, left Contin shortly after. John died 1848 in Peterhead.
With the first inscription there is reference to:
Ann (Mary) Matheson still at Contin 40 years after John left.

Ross & Cromarty / Contin or Collinston
« on: Wednesday 10 February 21 11:00 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if there is or has ever been such a place called Collinston in Ross and Cromarty or anywhere in Scotland? I have obtained 2 inscriptions to what appears to be the same person.
Inscription 1:
Gravestone:
In memory of his beloved spouse Ann Matheson who departed her life at Contin 16 August 1860 aged 59 years
Inscription 2:
109. (Table) Erected by Donald McLean to the memory of his beloved spouse Ann Matheson, who departed her life at Collinston the 16 August 1865, aged 39 (Lair 493)
Inscription 2 has been obtained through HFHS, the gravestone/table appears to be located in Contin Churchyard (would love a picture of gravestone). I have already searched Scotlands People, and found nothing (Included variants). I have found 2 places in the USA called Collinston.
Any help or comments greatly appreciated.
Jo

Devon / Bullor/Buller family from Brixham
« on: Thursday 02 July 20 09:52 BST (UK)  »
Hoping there might be someone out there who can help, all suggestions to this post will be gratefully received.

Trying to research this unknown branch of the Bullor/Buller family from Brixham, Devon.
Below is the information have been able to establish.
Thomas Bullor born 1735 (Location unknown), died 1815 in Brixham. He married Love Spray/Sprey on 22 Mar 1772 in Brixham.

Love Spray/Sprey born 1744 in Brixham, died 1808, Brixham.

Their children are as follows:
Jenny Bullor born 1773

Betty and Ann Bullor (twins) born 1775. Ann Bullor had an illegitimate son named John, born 1807. In 1808 she married William Jones. William was based on the H M Brig “Liberty”.

John Bullor born 1777

Lovis/Love Bullor born 1780. Lovis had an illegitimate son named John Walker Bullor, born 1801.

Thomas Bullor born 1782, died 1853 in Brixham. He never married. He also appears on the 1841 and 51 census records in Brixham.

William Bullor born 1785

Mary Bullor born 1787

Sarah Bullor born 1789

I am keen to know what became of Thomas and Love’s children? While I have established their baptisms through FindMyPast, I am unable locate any marriage or deaths (except for Ann’s marriage and Thomas’s death).  Also, unable to locate any further records of the two Johns that were born illegitimate. I have tried all kinds of variants on first and last names, broadened their births years, widened the locations and I am still coming up blank. What am I possibly missing???

Anyone reading this post and would like to view the Buller Family Tree on ancestry, the link is below:

Hi Milliepede,
Admittedly I haven't searched for Maltman in Brixham on census records. I shall make a point of searching the census records.

Hi DOB7,
Thank you for your response,
I have that information already in the Buller Family Tree on ancestry, unfortunately while that maybe possible, I can not prove it. Certainly not to be ruled out.

Devon / Who was John Spears Buller
« on: Saturday 23 February 19 15:00 GMT (UK)  »
Who was John Spears Buller? Did he really exist?
I would be interested to know if he was in anyway connected to the Buller family of Crediton, Devon and/or Morval, Cornwall. What I do know is that he appears on the marriage record of his son John Buller. John Buller married Margaret Wills in Brixham on 19 June 1838, John's father is recorded as being a Maltman, there is no indication of John Spears Buller being deceased. John Buller was born between 1809-1811, no record of his birth has been located and I have been unable to locate any BMDs for John Spears Buller.
It has been reputed that my Buller ancestors are part of a Cadet Branch of the Buller family, although at present I would not take it as being fact. I am also aware of the Bullor family in Brixham, and a John Bullor born 1777 to Thomas Bullor and Love Spray.
I'm hoping there is someone out there who can establish the existence of John Spears Buller and where he came from????

Thank you JenB,
Looking at the info you have given it certainly appears to be her. I shall add the census to the family tree.

Need help on locating Mary Elizabeth Reeves my x2 Great Grandmother on 1891 census:

Trying to find whereabouts of Mary Elizabeth Reeves on 1891 Census in Bournemouth/Christchurch area.
This is what I do know;
Mary Elizabeth was born 1847 in Hastings, Sussex to John Patterson and Mary Harry Thomas.
She had one daughter Gertrude Mary Patterson (my Great Grandmother) born 1873 in Torquay, Devon (Father Unknown). Gertrude was brought up by her grandparents.
Mary Elizabeth eventually found herself working in the Bournemouth/Christchurch areas as a Servant
1881 census
Working for Amabell E Pomfret as a Domestic servant
1901 census
Working for John A Carrick as a Domestic cook
Mary Elizabeth Patterson married James Reeves in 1882, registration district Christchurch.
James Reeves died 1885, Mary had no children with James and by 1911 she was living in Paignton, Devon. She never remarried and eventually died 1923.
Where was she in 1891? I have searched all possibilities as in age and transcription errors, and also in other counties. It would be nice to find her, just to complete her lifetime from 1847-1923
