The most unusual Will of Col Alexander Read (quite famous in his time) of the HEIC PROB11/1418/55 leaves a lot of money to his brother-in-law Fletcher Read, his sister-in-law Mrs Douglas, and various others of the family of Fletcher Read. Who the Colonel's wife was seems very difficult to establish, though he had four children, William Alexander, Helena, Harriet and Eliza. He was noted for inventing the Indian accounting system and his Will goes into his calculations as to what each of his children will require each year in great detail!
