Suffolk / Re: Thomas Carlisle and Mary Bradbury Marriage

Thanks for the look up - this marriage is proving very difficult to find! I know the Jesus records were possibly not very well kept in this period as there is a long gap in the records right at this point so it may be they did marry there and the record was not written or has been destroyed. I will keep searching!

Thank you so much for this. I have been working from the Suffolk FHS transcription CD and there is a Dorothy bapt 1745, Ann 1746 and Louisa 1749 - no mention of the 1747 baptism that is illegible nor the Richard baptism in 1754... I would like to think Daniel is their son (John Lemon's maternal grandfather was called Daniel I believe) They must all be connected - there are no other Lemons in Moulton! I just need to prove Mary Lemon is also one of John Lemon and Mary Carliel / Carlisle's children! Could the Richard bapt 1754 and the Robert buried 1755 actually be the same person I wonder?

At least I was some help! I had already taken a look at the Hunts Quaker records in case they appeared in there but alas, no Overalls were there.  There was an Overall mentioned in Hemingford Grey, I can't remember off the top of my head who or what it was. Hemingford Grey stuck out to me as there was a big Quaker burial ground discovered there in the 2000s and there is mention of burials there in the Hemingford parish registers which are denoted as "buried at Oubourn". However, I have just checked the PR and it was a marriage, John Overal of Ramsey m. Sarah Mitchell of St Stewkley (sic) by licence Nov 1 1711 and a burial Martha Overall w. of Henry buried in linnen, five pounds being divided between the informe and the poor of the parish 27 Feb 1680. The "Oubourn" burials start in 1687 so Martha is too early! I have Overalls in my tree but they are from Essex and came to Linton.

Sorry I was confused because you had put Henry Overall above but I see from your previous posts that you knew it was James Overall and Corrinah Hull! Presume you have the date of their marriage?

Thanks Galium! That baptism fits the family perfectly ;)

And how exciting that Cambridgeshire (and hopefully Huntingdonshire) records will be coming to Ancestry soon...I had not heard that, I'll keep my fingers, toes and eyes crossed  ;D

These are now not expected until 2025. Transcriptions of Ramsey PRs will be uploaded to CHFHS website very soon. www.chfhs.org.uk They are ready, but we are unable to upload new data atm.

Contact the St Catharine's College archive and ask them to look for the marriage to ascertain whether it took place there: archivist@caths.cam.ac.uk

St Catharine's was known as Catharine Hall until 1860. There are several marriages in the Great and Little Shelford registers that took place at Catharine Hall Chapel, plus several more at other colleges. The Little Shelford advowson was bought by the college in the 1870s so there is a connection albeit later than the marriage you are looking at. (Buying advowsons gave colleges a means of securing the rapid succession of Fellows, most of whom were in holy orders.)

Suffolk / Thomas Carlisle and Mary Bradbury Marriage
« on: Wednesday 08 May 24 17:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Trying to find where Thomas Carlisle and Mary Bradbury married. They appear in the Cambs Marriage Licence transcriptions as Thomas Carlisle of Swaffham Prior and Mary Bradbury of Moulton in April 1702 with a note "at Jesus college". Jesus archives have no record of them marrying there or applying for permission, so I am wondering if they married in Moulton instead as they do not appear in the Cambs marriage index. There are a Thomas and Mary Carlisle baptising children in Moulton from 1707. If anyone can look up for me I'd be most grateful!
