Hi,
I am the great great granddaughter of John MacPherson and Mariana MacPherson, their son John Koa MacPherson (my great grandfather) is Christina Macpherson's brother.
I did find a newspaper clipping from papers past, Bay of Plenty Times, Volume XV, Issue 2280, 14 May 1888, where Christina Macpherson is applying for a publicans accomadation for a house in Matata, called the Horse Shoe Inn.
Matata is where John resided before he died in 1887.

Hi Lucy2,

I have a family tree line on my maori side from my cousins, who their mum, who has passed now said she had a family tree andwould send it to us, which I have, but nothing goes back from John O'Callaghan, haven't even found out his birth or death date yet and no occupation known yet.

Sorry! I have made an error, in my first msg, the cutter "Leah" was my other great great grandfather's ship on my grandfathers side , John MacPherson of Matata, formerly of Tauranga, It is very confusing with all these John's in the family. I have found quite a lot on him.

Thanks Minniehaha for the links, I shall investigate.

Cheers

Hi Johnf04, Thank you for such a quick reply, I found his army enlistment records through the N.Z archives, and they have copies of them on-line, with his birthdate and mothers name.

I am the great, great grandaughter of John O'Callaghan and Ngawaara Tamihana, I can't find much on info on John, they had a son Whakarongotai (Tai) O'Callaghan who was born 3 Aug 1893, one of Tai's children is my grandmother Eileen Te Oneroa MacPherson (nee O'Callaghan) who passed away in May 1990 in Rotorua and she had a brother Poraumati O'Callaghan.
I have found in the N.Z Archives and the old canterbury website that a "John O'Callaghan" owned a cutter called the "Leah", in Papers Past there is a John O'Callaghan an old resident of Cardona that died 3 July 1913, I am not sure if this is my great, great grandfather. I live in Australia now and am trying to research my family tree.
Any information would be much appreciated.
