My best guess is he ended up in America or Australia so I'll probably just have to search records there. Or pay someone to do it!
There is a small chance he might have married and a descendant would come across this post. Thought it worth a shot.

Thanks hallmark.
Have explored those options but no joy. There is no record of him in Ireland or UK after his 3 months in the army in 1888.

Thanks for your replies folks.
I already have all the standard info on the Griffith family of Mountmellick, but it seems that William Griffith son of Edward and Lucy left Ireland sometime after 1887 as he disappears from Irish records. He was in the British army for 3 months in 1888 then paid his way out. I hired an army researcher to find this out. She finds no trace of him after 1888.
Thanks to his sister's prayerbook I know he died on 26 march 1915, but have no idea where! Not in UK census or death records either. Have no idea where to begin looking!
 Any suggestions welcome.

My ancestors were the Griffith family of Mountmellick and Rosenallis, Queens County. As far as I know the last of the family was gone from the area in 1900. I am trying to trace William Griffith born 1869 Rosenallis, Queens Co. Died 26 March 1915, not in Ireland. The last record I have of him in Ireland is 1888.
