Could these be a couple of births with variations of mum Hannah’s maiden name?:
BATTLE, JAMES
Mother’s maiden name: HOSKEY
GRO Reference: 1856 J Quarter in DONCASTER IN THE COUNTIES OF YORK AND NOTTINGHAM Volume 09C Page 455
(baptism: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:66B5-WNL2)

BATTLE, ALBERT
Mother’s maiden name: HOSKIN
GRO Reference: 1859 J Quarter in ECCLESALL BIERLOW Volume 09C Page 24

The family had moved to London by the 1871 census, but I’m wondering whether Pole/Powell stayed behind in Sheffield and started using the name Robert (like his dad).  E.g. this 1869 marriage to Alice Kirk: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6652-YL3T

If this is him, it would mean that he was born in Berlin and a tailor like his probable dad:
1881 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27Y-XY6C
1891 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:7LKJ-KMM
etc

This Robert is the son of Senior Robert Battle born 1826

And yes, thats the variants of Hannah's surname I have found on the gro.  However, Im wondering if they have become anglicized as she was born in Poland or Russia

Hi

How easy is it to find records, birth registrations or marriage for those born or who were in Prussia before relocating to England.

I have a family Robert Battle and wife Hannah who had a few children in Prussia before relocating to Hull, Yorkshire.  Two of the children Emel/Amel?  Pole/Powell were born in Prussia and I wondered how easy it would be to locate their birth records and also the marriage record of Robert and Hannah as Im unsure on Hannah's surname.  They did have some children in Hull/Yorkshire but locating the records with a view to finding Hannah's maiden name has been difficult.

Are there any good sites where records such as birth and marriages that took place in Prussia can be researched?

Thanks

Hi

Has anyone heard of or come across Poncia's buildings, old cross street birmingham?  If so is 1 Poncia's building residential or institutional building?  Its an address given on a death record.  Thank you

This is the 1871 census where on the previous page it has Eliza Mayes and son william.  So is this Eliza Morton who got together with Thomas Mayes?  Eliza and Thomas didn't marry.

Eliza Bassingthwaite was the widow of James born Norfolk, they had a son William born 1854

I took a look at the original document as well as the transcription and both documents say she was born middlesex.  However, Eliza Morton on the rest of the census's found all say birmingham.
