Thank you, it was just a surprise to see she died at her son's when the burial address was her daughters, I will call in the library next time I am in town to see if the 1939 register gives a clue

Hello
a great Grannie lived at Carlisle Street Sheffield, and her burial in June 1944 gives her address as Ellesmere Road which was her daughters home but when I got her death certificate she died at 198 Earsham Street and the informant W Thompson was of the same address but I don't know if it was Willie (1888) or Walter (1902) if anyone can please see which? Thank you

Hello, do any of the experts know what the rip raps were? in 1862
I have been reading about a relative who was one of 27 deserted, 5 were captured, court martialled and sentenced to the rip raps.
Another officer spoke for them because their captain had failed his exam and was dismissed and had told them they could go home because he had recruited them and they didn't have to serve under another! They were then reprieved.  Thank you

Hello, I had two relatives who served in the Civil War, an uncle and nephew. I have the service records for both and pension record for the uncle, NARA  say there is no pension record for the nephew which was a surprise as his wife was a widow 58 years, 1887-1945.
NARA  information on pension records and advised to contact the state veterans association for applications from 1934 but they didn't keep anything but advised to contact The Grand Army of the Republic in Philadelphia. They do research but only for members and have sent an application form. The uncles obituary mentioned that the GAR had attended.
My question is, Has anybody paid for research by GAR, was it worthwhile and do they have anything that NARA don't have?  Thank you

Thank you, his widow married my relative in 1821 but they couldn't find the death of the first husband. Thanks
