Hi MsFoster,
You're more than welcome. Not knowing what happened to Daphne has always niggled me. Obviously I never met her, she emigrated 18 years before I was born! ;D But she was still family, remembered by her sisters. Thanks again for filling in the gaps. I also didn't think that there would be any children as Daphne would have been 43 when she married, not so common then as now. I found your tree on Ancestry  :) I love the photo of the ship that she sailed on & will add it to my tree, if that's okay.  I will be putting more family pics on soon and more info, I just need to check some dates with my Uncle first. I wish that i'd gotten into all the family history before Aunty Betty died, kicking myself!! as she could have told me so much about her parents, grandparents, etc. Although I did find out a lot from her in the form of a lot of certificates & documents from her mother, Irene, that she had kept in a box, very helpful!  :) There were also lots of photos that must be of the Malschingers & Rawsons but i don't know who is who!  ;D
Regards, Vicky

Vicky! You can take whatever you please! It’s all there for the taking. Yes, I enjoyed reading about the ships, and looking at pictures. I even found a vlog from the Granddaughter of a lady who travelled on the same ship as George, The Mooltan. That was very interesting.

I do get emotionally involved with past family, and want to know all about them, even though I have never even heard of the majority of them. Sadly there is no one in my family to regale me with stories from the past. I, like yourself, wish so much that I had sat down with a video/tape recorder and quizzed them all when they were here.

That’s actually one of the reasons I’m doing this. I want my children, and then their children, and so on, to have something to read/study when they’re older. I want them to know where they come from. You’re so lucky to have that box, especially the photographs. Cherish those.

If I can do anything else for you, message me through Ancestry. I can’t wait to get home to look at Daphne’s photograph. It will be sooooo good to put a face to someone I’ve been searching for/thinking about for an age!

Thank you again,

Julie <3

Hello,  :)
I am the Granddaughter of Marguerite (Rawson) Mansfield that Carol mentioned. Thank you so much MsFoster (for starting the search) & Jamjar (for contacting Carol about it). I knew from my G Aunty Betty that the family heard no more from Daphne after their mother, Irene, passed away in 1959. My mum remembers there being talk of Daphne getting married but they didn't know for sure. So we've always wondered what became of her. I'm so happy to know now that she did in fact get married & have a life. (sad that I can't pass this on to Aunty Betty, she would have been so pleased.) Not knowing her married name, my searches on Ancestry just came to a dead end. I have my Mansfield/Phelan Tree on Ancestry & have just posted some family photos including a couple of Daphne. Thanks again for all the info, i'm extremely grateful.  If I can be of any help to anyone, just let me know.
Regards, Vicky.

Hi Vicky!

Lovely to hear from you! Thank you so much for sharing your story about Daphne. I’m so glad our finding George and Daphne has helped someone else. It’s so sad that families lose touch for one reason or another, but I’m happy that we are able to honour their memory by sharing their story on our trees.

I found out from the state library who hold the archive of the Sydney Daily Telegraph that the information we had on George was correct, and that was all that was in the ‘paper’ notice. There was no mention or hint of them having children. I expected them to not have children, but there was a tiny part of me hoped they had!

It’s so good that their memorials are beside each other. I’m still awaiting a photograph from George’s memorial (the man from Forest Lawn offered to do that for me) I look forward to adding that to my tree.

I’m excited to go find Daphne’s photograph on your tree! Thank you for sharing! I have spoken to Carol on ancestry, and she was so kind to offer information if I needed it.

I’m sorry for the tardy response. The email I use to sign up to the forum is not working at the minute, and Virginmedia don’t know why, grrrr. So I didn’t receive the notification that the thread had a reply.

Thank you again to all for everything <3

P.S When I do eventually get George’s memorial photograph, I’ll post it here.

Have you looked at the PRONI Historical Maps viewer?
Use it to search and browse seven historical OSNI maps.

https://apps.spatialni.gov.uk/PRONIApplication/

If you type ‘Moneyreagh’ in ‘Find address or place’ box and then click top right ‘Layer List’ and choose map.

Map 1846-1862 shows Unitarian Meeting House
   1900-1907 shows        “      “   “
Map 1919-1963 shows Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church

KG

Thank you so much KG! That would explain the 'Independent' on the census record, instead of Presbyterian. I'll bookmark that link for further research, thank you.

Richard Lyttle was indeed minister of the non-subscribing Presbyterian Church in Moneyrea.

"The original meeting house was a barn-like building built in 1719" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moneyreagh

Thank you so much Shaun!  :-*

Hi everyone,

A couple were married in:

Moneyrea Meeting House according to the ceremony of the Moneyrea congregation by licence by me Richard Lyttle.

Any ideas which church that is? I was thinking the Moneyreagh Non Subscribing Presbyterian Church.  It's been around in that area since 1719.

Thank you so much in advance.

Just a quick update.

The lovely man at Forest Lawn emailed me to say that he would take a picture of Uncle George's memorial and send it to me. Isn't that so kind.

I also heard back from the local Minto library. The lady who responded (also very lovely, Australian customer service is the best!) said what JM told me - the State library holds the archive of the Sydney Daily Telegraph. She said that she had forwarded my request on to them, and that she will pass on the paper notice when she receives it.

I really can't thank you gorgeous folk enough for all that you've done for me. Now.....do you want to 'turn' Irish for a wee while, and come knock down my Irish 'brick walls' There's plenty of them!  ;D

Hello,
I am the g g niece of Daphne Irene Rawson's mother Irene and have all of their information on Ancestry (Morische Family tree ) and Wikitree  ( Philpott 904 )It was a great surprise to learn that she had married in Australia to George Gibson   Cornwell, Ebgland and had also passed away there and not Cornwall as thought. I have beeen in touch with Vicky Phelen a grandaughter of Daphnes' sister  ( Name eludes me at the moment ) and Alyson Mansfield also a grandaughter of Marguerite Rawson.
I hope that this helps in some small way, I'm afraid that at 76 I sometimes forget details
Regards,
Carol in Canada.

Hi Carol,

Lovely to hear from you. I did check out your wonderful tree on Ancestry and it was a great help, thank you.

George Gibson is my Great Uncle, so I suppose that makes Daphne my Great Auntie through their marriage. As Jamjar has already said, they don't seem to have had any children out in Australia.

Jamjar kindly searched out Daphne's memorial, here is the link.

Just put Daphne Gibson into the search bar, and you'll find her memorial on the result.
