airsle,

It's all very well telling us you "have" a record, but unless you give a URL of some sort, then we don't know WHICH record you are looking at.

Trish, There's a big lump of census missing for 1861 in Monmouth. May well be in there...

Pauline

I wasn't aware that you needed the information in the 1901/1911 census for Ellen to look for her mother - Happy to provide anything I do have, just never know quite how much information to put in my posts and wanted to keep it as relevant to her mother as possible :)

1901 - https://www.myheritage.com/research/record-10156-100325079-/ellen-challenger-in-1901-england-wales-census?s=687880501&indId=individual-687880501-1501516

What names witness the 1895 marriage?
If you haven't seen the original, then purchase it.

Pauline

1901

There's a familysearch record implying a different birth surname for ellen

What 1871 and 1881 record are you looking at?

Hi Pauline,
I do already have her in the 1911 census and 1901 :)

As for the marriage certificate - no I haven't seen the original and at the moment we've had to cut back on all unnecessary expenses (hence not renewing the subscription tomorrow) as I have just had a baby.

A different birth surname for Ellen? How strange! I am struggling to find her birth under Regan or Clements though so maybe.. but not sure how I'd find it. That's part of why I dismissed her mother as Honora!

These were the census records I was looking at:

Monmouthshire / Last person I don't have for 7th generation!

Hoping you guys can help, this is the last person I don't have for the 7th generation for my husband - I'm trying to get a bit of research in while I can as my subscription on myheritage runs out tomorrow but have got stuck on this person for that generation!

So I have Ellen Clements (Born Circa 1870 Monmouthshire) who married John Challenger (B Oct 1871 Monmouthshire) in 1895 in Monmouthshire.

I am looking for Ellen's mother - I have Ellen in the 1901 and 1911 census records but none from before marriage. I have her father as John Clements from the Wales Parish marriage and banns.

I just can't find her or her parents in census records..

I can see for 1871 there is a record for Ellen Clements with a mum being Hanora Regan who is clements in 1881 however in GRO there is no Ellen Clements born with a MMN Regan nor an Ellen Regan with MMN Regan and there is no marriage between a John Clements and Hanora Regan that I can see.

I'd appreciate any help you can give! Do let me know if any more information is needed.

Thank you

Public trees for Minnie Hughes on Ancestry (just a sample)

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/9201936/person/162283779222/facts

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/108425295/person/190076777291/facts

Ah - I can't access them as my subscription is myheritage not ancestry? So I can't see those trees :/ I've got Minnie's parents as Jonathan Hughes and Eliza Spragg - can you by any chance see what Jonathan's parents names are? I'm looking and getting multiple possible results!

The 1897 marriage image is on FindMyPast
Alfreds father is William LLoyd a joiner, Sarahs is David Newport a Labourer

Perfect! I'm starting to wonder if I should have done a subscription to Findmypast rather than myheritage...lol.

1901 3337 /146/8
Arthur Lloyd , 23 yrs b Manley, Cheshire

1891 2834/ 11

Arthur Lloyd 16 yrs b Manley

1881 3519 /66/8

Arthur Lloyd 5 yrs b Manley
With parents William and Betsey and siblings

Thank you! It was narrowing down which one was the right one without parent names which was proving impossible - these give me a bit more to go on so appreciate it.

Edit: and myheritage has his name down as Author on 1881 census!! Wouldn't have been in my search results anyway!

There is a death for Jonathan Hughes in 1904 and Charlotte Hughes in 1899

No wonder I was having no luck finding census records with their names in!

Hiya!

So, I'm currently doing some research for my step father's family as hoping to print it out as a present for him however am stuck in two places on his mothers side for his grandparents - I just can't seem to find these records so I'd appreciate any help you can give!

His mother is Valerie Constance Lloyd DOB1935 and grandparents are Arthur Harold Lloyd (DOB 05.11.1900 in Cheshire) and Minnie Hughes (DOB 06.1901 Cheshire) - They married in 1919 in Runcorn.

I can see that his grandfather Arthur's parents were Arthur Lloyd (Circa 1877, Cheshire) and Sarah Newport (Married Arthur 1897) and have them in census records post marriage however I can't seem to find Arthur's parents names or narrow down as his name isn't very uncommon pre marriage :/ Is there any way to do this without buying a marriage certificate?

The other side was Minnie Hughes parents - I can see her mother's maiden name was Spragg and found some siblings (Joshua Caleb Hughes 1893; Samuel Hughes 1897, Charlotte Hughes 1899; Jonathan Hughes 1904) however I can't seem to find these names together in any census records - so therefore have been unable to track what her parents names are!

Let me know if you need any more info - Thank you!

1841 census - Elizabeth is 1yr & living in Canonbie.  Father John is a blacksmith

I can see it when I look on ancestry but not on myheritage - is this a common issue? I'm trying to approach it from a few different ways to see the record, maybe it's been uploaded differently :/

I've just checked and I don't think My Heritage has the complete 1841 Scottish census online:

Quote
The records in this collection make up 4.3% of the complete 1841 Scotland Census.

https://www.myheritage.com/research/collection-10322/1841-scotland-census-extract?s=524862761

Oh! I didn't see that, how annoying - I wonder why myheritage doesn't have it but ancestry does! I went for myheritage over ancestry as google said it was better for Europe and ancestry better for abroad.  Ah well, I've copied and pasted it to her bio - no wonder I couldn't find it, tried every way I could think of!
Thank you
