Marriage?

Robert Bennett  - full age. Letter carrier of 6 Tudor Grove, S Hackney
Father:    Thomas Bennett, [can't decipher occupation - starts with pav ?]

Eliza Heycock - full age
Father - William Heycock, floor cloth printer

Marriage:    3 Apr 1866  St Barnabas, Homerton

Birth registration?

BENNETT, ALICE
mother's maiden name        ACOCK
Q2 1869 SHOREDITCH  Volume 01C  Page 183

Oh thanks for that, I didn't see your message last night. I saw the Heycock marriage too and believed it was possible all considering but then noticed the father's surname, it's interesting as the writing of Tudor and Thomas is the surname but yet seems too much of a conincidence for the occupation etc... I think I'll have to give Elizabeth Heycock/Acock some more reserch

ah thats interesting there was a Alice bennett I saw on the GRO whose mothers maiden name was also Acock, in 1869 Shoreditch. That would make sense for James if he was not in the 71 Census. Though annoyingly I cannot see a marriage of Acock to a Bennett that matches up.

Oh that does look like it could be it! Thanks

ah thanks for clarifying

London and Middlesex / Robert James Bennett and Alice J Bennett - St. Paul's / Shoreditch
« on: Wednesday 15 February 23 21:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am looking for some information on the daughter of my 3rd Great Grand Uncle Robert James Bennett who was born in Wiltshire one of eight children who were born across Wiltshire, Channel Islands and Dorset. Many of the boys moved to London where they had families including Robert James. Robert was born in 1838 Donhead Wiltshire and appears in the census' as follows
1841 born Wiltshire living in Warminster with family
1851 - born donhead living in shaftesbury with family
1861 - missing

1871 - Durhead [Donhead] born Wiltshire 1841, living with Eliza Bennett 23 born southwark and Alice J Bennett 2, born Shoreditch. I cannot be definite of the occupation, but it looks like letter caviar though presume it could be carrier.

1881 - Porter as a cabinet maker born in Donhead 1839. Living with an Eliza Bennett born c.1843 in Marlybone

1891- here it says his wife is Emma (given I have the correct census, as the birth year and place are correct as Wiltshire and 1839]. Here Emma is born in 1835, Middlesex. Also living with a Lacy Ryan son aged 31? and Wm Ryan 54m Maid though I feel like these may have been switched.
onwards - ?

I cannot seems to find any information on the marriage of Robert to either an Eliza or an Emma. Nor can I see on the GRO an Alice Jane Bennett or just an Alice Bennett that would fit. Nor can I see any deaths. I also know that many of the siblings children, of Robert did move to Portsea, Hampshire and even Cornwall.

Any suggestion or help appreciated as to what happened to Alice, Robert or his supposed wife if he did marry them?

Thanks in advance

I wonder if that could be Alice Josephine Sigrist in Portsea on the 1891 census age 22
Occupation dress costumier with a Susannah Sigrist 18 drapers assistant

would tie in with the newspaper advert but if so not your Josephine sadly.

Hi, thanks for the thoughts. I've just had another look at some records on ancestry, whilst this is not the same Josephine, this would have been her niece, whose family moved to the Portsea area. The Josephine I am looking for had a brother called Edward who appeared to have a daughter called Alice Josephine too.

England / What happened to Josephine Sigrist?

I am related to James Albert Bennet (my 3rd Great Uncle) who was born in 1846 Shaftesbury and died in 1917 London (Chelsea). His parent were James Bennet and Elizabeth Burrow.

James Albert's siblings include
1. Eliza Bennet b. 1833 Guernsey, - died in Portsmouth never married
2. William Bennet b.1835 Guernsey,
3. Sarah Michell b. 1837 - Not sure what happened to this sister she seems to have disappeared.
4. Robert Bennet b. 1838 Donhead, Wiltshire
5. Amelia Rachel Bennet b. 1841 Warminster worked as seamstress (my 3rd Great Grandmother)
6. Charles Herbert Bennet b. 1843 - Was also a coachman working in London
7. James Albert Bennet b. 1846
8. Emily Elizabeth Bennet b. 1848

The timeline for James is as follows...
1851 -Census - living in Shaftesbury with family
1861 -Census - living in Shaftesbury with family
1871 -Census - Missing

1879 -8th January Marriage in Paris, France under UK, Foreign and Overseas Registers of British Subjects, states it is James as born in Shaftesbury
1879 -11th January Marriage registered to Josephine Sigrist/Ligrist (former is correct) - single
1879 -21st January Marriage of British Embassy Or Legation Abroad, Great Britain

1881 -Census - Head > Lodger at Caroline St 3 Eaton Livery Stables > Occupation is domestic coachman Living alone

1891 -Census - Living with an "Annie Bennet" in Kengsington - Birthplace transcribed wrong - Occupation - Coachman
1901 -Census - Living in Chelsea - Occupation - cab driver, tick under Deaf/Dumb, Blind, Lunatic, Imbecile/Feeble Minded? Living Alone.
1911 -Census - Living in Chelsea Caroline St 3 Eaton Livery Stables, - Lodger, states married as a cab driver and says he has completed 32 years of marriage, which would put him as married to Josephine.

Josephine Sigrist' family were from Switzerland there is much information on her father Bernard on ancestry. Josephine was born in London 1852. Josephine was not living with her father in the 1881 census either though he died in 1886.

I did think that Annie could be Josephine in the 1891 census however, Annie is born in Dublin, Ireland.

My question is where was Josephine Living when James was alive? I've had a look for any children under her maiden name as well as a death of Josephine Bennet but cannot find anything on this either. I then thought perhaps Josephine had re-married as had James the same year, but cannot find anything for that either?

Any suggestions or loopholes appreciated as this one has me puzzled
