hello Steve and others,
I have a strong family connection to Hen Gapel, and a bit of use full information. My 5th great-grandfather was Edward Howell b. 1712.,He lived in Bont Dolgadfan, I believe his residence was Cae Madog. His father was Hywel Hugh ap David, born 1675 Carno. His Sons, Richard, Edward and William, with others, formed the Methodist Church in Llanbrynmair, [period of Howell Harris]. Their aunt, Hywel's daughter Emma Howell 1717-1749, was the first wife of the Rev. Richard Tibbott, the first Pastor of said Church. Tibbott died in 1798.
Edward's grandson, William 1777-1854, m. Elinor Roberts. Her family
has more stories to tell then there is room here to explore. Needless to say, The Rev. John Roberts 1767-1834, who m. Mary Brees, dau of Richard, is the Key to what happened. Rev. John, in 1798, took the place of Rev. Richard as Minister. According to his[John's] written introduction John had to reconstruct [my words] the Churches BDM, as those written by Rev. Richard, were lost to fire. The St Alphis records are in tact, ande worth a gaze. I garnered this information from the LDS microfilms, at a local Family history center. They in turn filmed them at the NLW.

Btw I have more Brees family members in my database than I want to count. Good luck.
