Yes, it is afores(ai)d.

And strictly it's not a marriage licence but a marriage bond, which was sworn as part of the application to obtain a marriage licence.

thank you

My daughter lived in a house which had formerly been occupied by a shipwright.  He had used his considerable woodworking skills to fit out the house with cupboards which made use of all kind of nooks and crannies. They were skilfully made, too.  He had worked on boats and was used to making the most of awkward spaces.  Whether he had worked on big ships, I don't know.

A great skill for sure

I've just checked my Liverpool directories for 1805, 1814, 1821, and 1825. No mention of any Robert Tarletons, and just one William Tarleton ( a Reverend).

Sorry which directories ?(excuse me as a bit of a noob)

Many thanks to all that helped here, they are now obviously the same people as in the furniture makers directory.

and another snippet - the V shaped wood around a Sailing ships side was fixed upside down - this is called THE DEVIL - and when a sailor had to walk the plank placed on the Devil when he was half way across - he was"Twixt (Between) the devil and the deep blue sea"... :)

I often wondered where that came from, thank you.

Many thanks to you all, I am not sure how to be 100% certain of the possibility that they are one and the same but looks very likely given all the replies.
