I see a few Grimes of Skerries - some hereWould you mind sending me that newspaper snippet if you don’t mind and I’m going to through these links now

Several dates for John Grimes of Skerries too in Crew Lists as there are for Grimes, Ringsend.
Robert shows Ringsend as his residence on marriage, as did Bridget Grimes.
Irishtown and Ringsend are close.
There is a newspaper snippet November 1871, Midland Counties Advertiser
Re a James Slattery, who drowned.
“…two fishermen named John Grimes and James Mordaunt were rowing with deceased from the beach at Ringsend, opposite the coast guard station.”
Maybe you could find records - desth, marriages etc for John Grimes, Skerries which may help you decide.
Looking at baptisms, I can’t see one for Robert yet.I have a master certificate for John Grimes and it says born Skerries but I don't know if it this John Grimes cause I it says born 1829
There are other possibilities but only that.
John was a widower on his death.
There is a death for Bridget Grimes, Fish woman, but sadly no address or family members given.

Does the second image say where he served and what he served as I can’t really make out the writingThere should be a Dependents Pension Card for the Widow Bridget unless she Remarried
But I can't find it.
If they had Children they would be due a Pension till their 16th Birthday unless Mother Remarried
Which could be why I can't find it.
Pension cards attached, his widow had remarried and was named as guardian of the children.

The Soldiers Effects Pay arrears page is on Ancestry under Military
Then Military Catalogue over on the bottom right of the Military page
Soldiers Effects is on page 3 of 5
You need either Serial number or Name and Date of Death
You State Photos are Blurred
Have you Clicked on each Page and then Zoomed In?
No he's definetly got a CWGC Military Headstone as I have been shown it before
“He should therefore have a CWGC Military Headstone on his Grave Plot in Dublin”
Not everyone has a Military headstone, some families preferred not to. My grandfather a Q.M.S. Having served right through from the Boer war until 1916, has the headstone chosen by my Grandmother.
Haven't seen a Soldiers Effects Entry of Unclaimed Army Pay Arrrearslike this before.Where did you find these records They're great thank you
His Widow Bridget received the War Gratuity due based on his Length of Service
But his £14 Pay arrears has disappeared not paid ?
This shows he was an Active Serving Soldier at the time of his Death on 7 June 1915
He should therefore have a CWGC Military Headstone on his Grave Plot in Dublin
