Hey.
Maud Thomas was the daughter of an Arthur Curwood and Harriet Hillman. She ended up in Australia.
That Arthur was born in Honiton, Devon in 1861, the son of Thomas Curwood and Mary Ann Melhuish.

Hi Cr.
I have looked through my records here and there may be a little to add to what you know.
In the 1921 census there is an Arthur Curwood born 1876 (45 years old) in "Kentish Town, St, Pancras", a single lodger living at 20 New Chesterfield Street, Marylebone.
In the 1939 register there is an Arthur Curwood (transcribed as 'Corwood') living at 41 Holmes Road, Kentish Town, Camden, St. Pancras. His birthdate is listed as July 24, 1885 but there is a Jan 24, '76 written below it, (and a May 5, '86 written above). I believe these two Arthurs are the same Arthur, and potentially they could be the Arthur Curwood you are asking about.  I cannot connect these Arthurs to any other Arthur Curwood and yours is the most likely they could be.

I have more records to go through over the next couple of months but I doubt I will find much more about this Arthur. If I do, I will let you know.

I do not think I have seen the Royal Navy records you mention about our Arthur. Are they accessible somewhere? Would you be willing to share them or where I can access them? Perhaps I can spot something on them that will point us somewhere.

Thanks!

Nottinghamshire / Re: Curwoods in Nottingham

FreeBMD has 30 Curwood births in NOttinghamshire between 1930-1950. It might help if you can narrow your request down a little (bearing in mind that we cannot post any details of people who are, or may be, still living).

Thanks Annie. That's the thing. The England and Wales Birth Registration Index, 1837-2008 has numerous likely-living Curwoods in the later years from Nottingham that we cannot fit into the Curwood lineages. We've had correspondence from other places in England (and around the world) to get those places sorted out, but need someone (likely related) who could do that for us in Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire / Curwoods in Nottingham

Hi there,
The biggest holes in the Curwood family story are from Nottingham (which ironically is the spot in the world with the most Curwoods).  If anyone has information on more recent Curwoods there (1930 onwards or so), please contact me. Thanks.

Can someone tell me where Baird's Square was? Like, if I looked at a map today where was it? Thanks.
