Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: James Bayley born circa 1792 Biddulph
« on: Wednesday 03 April 24 08:21 BST (UK)  »
As Willow mentioned earlier there is baptisim in 1795 for a James Bayley in Biddulph, parents Thomas and Nancy (Anne) Bailey. I've found Thomas' burial record which has him placed at Greenway Moor the same place where James' children Lettice (born 1828) and James (1825) are recorded living when they're baptised.

Burial date 1831: - https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5818ee08e93790de6a3d25d2?search_id=5a612108f493fdb03f715405&ucf=false

Thank you for this info Neale. It looks like James, Mary, and Hannah are the right people so I will continue my research in this direction. :)

Wow good sleuthing Willow. Thanks for all your help digging into mysterious James. This will help my research hugely.

If he died at the age of 79 and this matches with the 1871 census record, am i right in thinking his birth was probably 1792 and therefore Neale's earlier comment with the baptisim record is probably the right one? There is a baptism in Biddulph on 26 Aug. 1792 for James Bailey, son of James and Mary?

Thanks very much for all the information everyone, has helped with my research already.

Very interesting to learn my grandfather was engaged before leaving to Melbourne and then on to New Zealand their final destination.

I have joined that Facebook group too, thanks for sharing this info and the map :).

Hello

I am not sure which board this should be on - hope this one is ok.

James Bayley is shown on the 1871 census with his family living in Macclesfield. The record estimates James' birth around 1792 in Biddulph, Staffordshire. I'm struggling to find any birth records or his parents to confirm his birth and his life pre living in Macclesfield.

Some details:
1841 Census Record - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M799-SMR
1871 Census Record - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBX8-FQPance
Looks like James also died before 1881 as Hannah is listed as a widow and living with her son Zaccheus and daughter in law Harriett.

I would appreciate help in finding Zaccheus Bayley's father James Bayley birth records and if possible James' parents. There appears to be many James Bayleys over this period so wondering if anyone has more luck than me.

Thank you

Hello RootsChatters,

My great grandfather owned a green grocer's shop on Audenshaw Road in the early 50's called A.A Bailey. After going through some of the census records, it looks like it was located at 524 Audenshaw Road. I'm looking for any information of the area in the 40s and 50s and potentially anyone that had a connection with the family and would be happy to share any stories or memories. (long shot I know).

I have found a programme for the Little Red Riding Hood play at Red Hall Methodist Sunday School in Feb/March 1949 where my grandad Alan played the character Baron Wortwissle. I have also found a photo from the pantomime "Aladdin" the following year.

Little is known about my grandfather's / great grandfather's time in England as they moved to New Zealand in 1954 and the stories were not passed down unfortunately.

Great Grandfather - Alfred Abel Bailey born 1896 Lancashire - Married Nellie Nesbitt
Grandfather - Alan Sidney Bailey born 1932

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Samuel Abel Bailey born 1865
« on: Monday 05 February 24 07:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm trying to trace back my family history on the Bailey side and seem to get stuck at Samuel Abel Bailey and would appreciate any help finding Samuel's parents.

I know Samuel Abel Bailey was born in 1865 in Leek Staffordshire and married Emily Bailey (born Nixon) in Feb 1 1892 @ All Saint's Church, Leek, Staffordshire, England. He died in 1947.

A bit of background:

Samuel and Emily had a son Alfred Abel Bailey born 6 Feb 1896 in Manchester, Lancashire. Alfred married Nellie Bailey (born Nesbitt) in Dec 18 1920 @ St Aidan, Bradford, Lancashire, England.

Alfred and Nellie had a son Alan Sidney Bailey who is my grandfather and was born 1932 in England. Alan moved to New Zealand and married my grandmother Jean Molly Bailey (born McLean) who then had my father Robert Alan Bailey.

I'm trying to trace my family history back but seem to get no results once I get to Samuel Abel Bailey.
